At the age of 39, Lois recognized that she was dyslexic. Since then, she has specialized in teaching children who have struggled to read, working with students of all ages in Australia, England, and the United States. Her dyslexia has assisted her in creating a variety of teaching methods taking into account the reading ability of the student, employing age-appropriate, rather than reading-age-appropriate, material. Several of her students have gone on to graduate from college. Her non-traditional background, multi-continental exposure, and passion for helping failing students have equipped her with a unique skill set and perspective. Despite struggling in school, Lois qualified as a physical education teacher, and more recently completing a Master's in Literacy and Reading from the State University of New York at Albany. Lois has presented her work at numerous national and international conferences. She is a member of the Australian College of Education, the International Literacy Association and the International Dyslexia Association. Lois continues to work with students to provide education and support to their teachers. "Reversed: A Memoir" (Acorn Publishing), the story of her son's—and her own—learning disability, is her first book.
