Richard Kradin was born in New York City, received a BA and MS in Chemical Physics from New York University, and attended Jefferson Medical College before joining the staff of the Massachusetts General Hospital in Pulmonary Medicine, Pathology and Psychiatry. He trained as a research immunologist at Harvard and has conducted clinical trials in cancer immunotherapy. He is certified in both Freudian and Jungian Psychology, and has published and lectured widely on a variety of topics including lung disease, infectious disease pathology, the placebo response, and psychosomatic disorders. He is the recipient of the Gradiva Prize for Best Paper in Psychoanalysis in 1998, the Upjohn Prize for Cancer Research, and the Small Prize from Harvard University for excellence in religious studies. Dr. Kradin is the former Research Director of the Harvard Mind/Body Medical Center and affiliated with the Harvard Center for Placebo Studies. His most recent texts include The Placebo Response (2008) The Mind:Body Interface (2012), both for Routledge, Parting of the Ways (2016) for Academic Studies Press. He has a new text entitled Out of Control: How Obsessionally Foster American Political Conflict that is scheduled for publication in 2017. He resides in Concord, MA.
