Summary

With nods to Bridget Jones and Pride and Prejudice, a charming #ownvoices queer holiday rom-com debut about a free-spirited social media astrologer who agrees to fake a relationship with an uptight actuary until New Year's Eve—with results not even the stars could predict!

After a disastrous blind date, Darcy Lowell is desperate to stop her well-meaning brother from playing matchmaker ever again. Love—and the inevitable heartbreak—is the last thing she wants. So she fibs and says her latest setup was a success. Darcy doesn't expect her lie to bite her in the ass.

Elle Jones, one of the astrologers behind the popular Twitter account, Oh My Stars, dreams of finding her soul mate. But she knows it is most assuredly not Darcy... a no-nonsense stick-in-the-mud, who is way too analytical, punctual, and skeptical for someone as free-spirited as Elle. When Darcy's brother—and Elle's new business partner—expresses how happy he is that they hit it off, Elle is baffled. Was Darcy on the same date? Because... awkward.

When Darcy begs Elle to play along, she agrees to pretend they're dating to save face. But with a few conditions: Darcy must help Elle navigate her own overbearing family over the holidays and their arrangement expires on New Year's Eve. The last thing they expect is to develop real feelings during a fake relationship.

But maybe opposites can attract when true love is written in the stars?

A bit dull

There was an awful lot of lip and inside cheek biting and not a lot of story. I struggled to finish it.

BUY IT

struggled with the first 10 minutes but so pleased I stuck with it, great characters that will make you laugh out loud, and damn this author can write, off to see if she has any other books right now.

Soulmates

I got to say I loved this book, it was beautifully written and the narrator did a fantastic job at the voices and you could easily tell them apart.
This book is my kind of book, it’s a romantic, charming, funny story, that had me going aww that’s sweet, then I was laughing out loud and then the next minute I was like aww that’s so sad and I was crying.
I couldn’t put it down I was hooked.
The story was about happy go lucky Elle and she is looking for her soulmate, she gets set up on a date with her new business partners sister and she is called Darcy.
And there’s a spark from the start.
I won’t say much as I won’t spoil the story.
I will say I would of loved an epilogue at the end because i felt it missed it.
But I think there’s another book about Brendon who Is Darcy brother and I think Elle and Darcy have a main part in that book so I hope it carries on their story too.

A Story to Get Lost In

Very easy listening, getting invested in the characters comes naturally from the amazing voice performance to the gripping writing. From the author painting a perfect scene to the reader perfectly capturing the different characters and remaining consistent throughout. A loveable story and plot.

overall enjoyable

First I would like to say how im a big fan of opposite attract and slow burn romance stories. Highlighting the stress caused by many at the holiday season is good and added to the feels I got for Elle . I really did want to knock Darcy's brother head together with Elle family for being such idiots , that's great writing for you

I would of enjoyed more without all the harry potter references but perhaps I'm being unkind to the author and jkr toxic behaviour to part of our community wasn't so widely known when the book written . Perhaps its best to keep specifics when referencing other material to just the genre i.e the character liked fantasy books etc . Just a thought

beautiful

the first part of the story is full of humour, very funny, a fake romance starts to appease family, when they meet elles' mother who complains elle hasn't lived to expectations, despite elles' success and being happy, elle and darcy start to become closer, darcy is terrified of being hurt again, and when her own mother shows up interfering, darcys' fears boil and she turns elle away.
the writing is superb, so real, I laughed and then cried not knowing how this would end.
the narrator is brilliant and impressive .
a definite read again.

only let down for me was there wasn't an epilogue, I was expecting a moon and stars ring

sucker for a romance!

I really am a sucker for a romance. Elles quirkiness is adorable and Darcy is awkward headstrong but passionate. I fell in love with the main characters and got swept up with them, tears and all. And I loved Margot, elles best friend, pops up every now and then for some humour and a good one liner. Predictable... yes... but I love rom coms and it is written well and the emotions took over me, the typical heartbreak before love conquers all. Love is a battlefield, and I'm with Elle believing in fate and the stars.
