About this listen
Beginning in the broken aftermath of the First World War and the Treaty of Versailles, which made German recovery almost impossible, Whittock tells not just the account of the men who rose to the fore in the dangerous days of the Weimar republic, circling around the cult of personality generated by Adolf Hitler, but also a convincing and personality-driven overview of how ordinary Germans became seduced by the dreams of a new world order, the Third Reich. The book also gives a fascinating insight into the everyday life in Germany during the Second World War and explores key questions such as how much did the Germans know about the Holocaust and why did the regime eventually fail so disastrously?

A quick but useful history
I learned something so that is always a good thing. There is nothing strikingly new in the handling of the history but some facts that I was not aware of.

One of the darkest periods of European History
What did you like most about A Brief History of the Third Reich: The Rise and Fall of the Nazis?
Sean Barrett is one of my favourite narrators and his authoritative and at times slightly amazed ( at the sheer horror of it all) voice enhances this production
What was one of the most memorable moments of A Brief History of the Third Reich: The Rise and Fall of the Nazis?
The descriptions of the almost school-yard efforts of the senior Nazis to impress Their Hero Hitler by outdoing one another
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Cry- how did it happen and could it happen again ??

Concise and educational listening
I’ve read and listened to many books about WW2 and the Third Reich, and I found this book well structured, insightful and enjoyably engaging.
Well worth a listen.

warning!
This book is amazing. What scared me is that Nazis wanted to introduce health passports. Yes, health passports!!!
Not a bit of this book is boring. It focuses not too much on politics but a lot on everyday life.

Ear opening
I listened to much of this while walking around Berlin. There are many books which recount the events leading up to the Second World War but few which so cogently explain how the Nazis were brought into power _democratically_ and how they retained power until the third Reich unravelled.

Captivating
In general I have no interest in history after about 1650, and I have found my mind wandering when listening to some history books, it was not the case with this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it and was regretful that it was finished.
The author investigates their points thoroughly without overkill and the narrator reads in an interesting fashion.
I highly recommend this book!

Everyone should read this.
The narration is perfect, the perfect voice for this informative book.
After learning the history of W11 in the early 80s in high-school, I believed I knew quite an amount of what happened. I realise now after reading this that I knew nothing at all. Everyone should read this book, to not only understand what man is capable of doing to his fellow man, yet to also see similar is happening currently with world governments and the population. Freedoms being removed, rushed vaccinations, health passports being discussed. No entry anywhere for the un vaxxed, regardless that our human rights state we have free choice, fee will. Our freedoms to protest have been removed and made unlawful. Governments recently passed laws stipulating the public must do what ever the government states. The similarities between 1933/1945 and now, will open your eyes wide.

brilliant and educational
I often found myself questioning how so many can be so cruel and allow the atrocities to happen. however this book gave great insight as to how that did happen.

History repeating itself?
Can’t help feeling that we seem to be living in a similar state now in 2024!
