Summary
A gripping stand-alone thriller from the Sunday Times number one best-selling author of the Logan McRae series.
Welcome to the Misfit Mob... It's where Police Scotland dumps the officers it can't get rid of but wants to: the outcasts, the troublemakers, the compromised. Officers like DC Callum MacGregor, lumbered with all the boring go-nowhere cases. So when an ancient mummy turns up at the Oldcastle tip, it's his job to find out which museum it's been stolen from.
But then Callum uncovers links between his ancient corpse and three missing young men, and life starts to get a lot more interesting. O Division's Major Investigation Teams already have more cases than they can cope with, so, against everyone's better judgment, the Misfit Mob are just going to have to manage this one on their own. No one expects them to succeed, but right now they're the only thing standing between the killer's victims and a slow, lingering death. The question is, can they prove everyone wrong before he strikes again?

Absolutely amazing
I loved this book, I loved the plot, I loved the characters, I loved the narration, I really appreciated that it was so long, I did not want it to finish.
Steve Worsley's performance was brilliant as always.
If you like the Logan McRae stories, I reckon you'll love this, unless you're a stickler for realism, then perhaps it's one to give a miss, if, like myself, you love it when fiction is, for once, stranger than truth, then give it go.

Fabulous and haunting
Plots within plots, believable characters, made me laugh, cry, jump out of my skin and hold my breath in equal measure.
Stuart MacBride has surely written Book 1 of a new series!
The narration was equal to the quality of this book and enhanced every heart stopping twist.
We need another one of these soon please Mr MacB

MAGNUM OPUS - OVER 21 HOURS OF ENTERTAINMENT
I was entertained, intrigued, scared and in suspense for every minute of this book. the narrator is excellent. the story was unusual and full of twists and turns. well done Mr McBride. Does it really have to be a stand alone? I enjoyed it every bit as much as a Logan Mcrae book.

Dark, witty, nasty, and entertaining.
Ok, I found the central character a little too like Logan Macrae from the authors other novels, and the quantity of (smoked) red herrings cast about the place to be a bit much, but other than that, this is utterly enjoyable.
Although the cast of characters are drawn in only bold lines for the most part, they are still distinctive and put to good use. The plot is nice and twisty, and when you guess ahead of reveals it's not annoying. The 'procedural' elements of the plot move everything along nicely, while the real entertainment comes from the dialogue.
Classic MacBride, I hope he keeps them coming.

Stuart MacBride at his best!
What made the experience of listening to A Dark So Deadly the most enjoyable?
The most enjoyable things about A Dark So Deadly were the story, the characters and the narration - loved it all!
What was one of the most memorable moments of A Dark So Deadly?
Probably the denouement even though I did guess who the killer was before the big reveal it was still done in a brilliant way. It was a strange feeling actually liking the killer!
What about Steve Worsley’s performance did you like?
Everything, Steve reads the Logan McRae books too and I always love his narration.
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Never meet your hero's!
Any additional comments?
I wasn't expecting to like this book as much as I did. I'm a massive fan of the Logan McRae books and thought this would be less enjoyable, I'm pleased to say I was very wrong, I loved it! I really, really hope that Stuart decides to make this a series - pretty please!

Fantastic!
I loved this book! The characters in the misfit mob are so engaging, I really hope there will be more from them! It was nice to have a police story with a sense of humour and I actually laughed out loud several times!

Long book, worth reading
Where does A Dark So Deadly rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
The length of the book really gave the story some authenticity. Lots of other crime novels that I've read in the past aren't long enough to allow the characters to develop into fully fledged people within a plausible story.
What other book might you compare A Dark So Deadly to, and why?
Any title by RD Wingfield, as the style is somewhat reminiscent of Frost.
Have you listened to any of Steve Worsley’s other performances? How does this one compare?
Given the long length of the book and the awkward things that MacBride made him do, like rapping, I highly rate his versatility.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
At over 20 hours? This book took me a week, so all in one sitting is ludicrous.

Some best seller
I brought this book due to the Sunday times best seller listing!!
A complete waste of my time and money, a childless story line unbelievable situations and cartoon people.
The narration was one of worse I have listened to for very long time.
I sent it back and a credit, thank you for that. And now can buy and listen to a good book again
