Given the opportunity to join the Verdant Green Waters Sect, Wu Ying must decide between his pedestrian, common life and the exciting, blood soaked life of a cultivator.

Wasn’t sure at first but now I’m on book 8
This series took me a while to get into after reading the cradle series and wanting something to fill the hole. Picked it up and then actually didn’t listen to it for a month or two, eventually I did I can confidently say one of the best progression fantasies I’ve every had the pleasure of listening too. Book 9 releases in a couple days and I can’t wait. This competes with the cradle series in my mind

I really enjoyed this
I devoured the whole book in one go the only issue I had was the names as a native English speaker the names being multiple words long in combination very foreign names made it very difficult to keep track of who was who something to keep in mind for future books written and read or even translated to English

enjoyable
I loved this novel. The story flows easily. The MC isn't overpowered. He is humble and his main quality is his perseverance.

Really easy and enjoyable listen.
The book was well paced. It was refreshing for the MC not have everything given to them. You really felt the MC deserved the fortunes that came his way!

The story makes no sense
The performance is good, but the actual story is ridiculous. If the sect in the story behaves the way they do screwing every junior they would never have a single loyal member. all members would wait for their opportunity and make sure they betrayed their tormenters. the sect wouldn't last and would be gutted by enemies. whilst the story might feel like it's pushing the MC the reality is every single elder in the sect is a selfish egotistical asshole screwing over everyone else. they dont want the best, they dont provide any real support, not even the basics. no way in any world could any organisation survive that kind of nonsense, that's even more true of a military organisation where trust is required. the story is so ridiculous, so not going to bother with the rest of the series as it's clear the author just decided to write a story about assholes without considering whether it would or could ever work.

Unexpectedly good! Don't skip!
I was a bit skeptical about it at first, but it was really enjoyable!
My only wish was for easier to follow names for the characters.
Great story and Mr. Baldree delivers excellence, as always.

Better than expected
Hopefully book2 will build on the
First book.
A change of story line would be welcome too.

Can’t get enough
I absolutely loved this story. The writing is indulgent of the details of the martial arts styles and cultivation process, which I loved, and the main character really is just some guy - not chosen or rich or particularly special. The performance is fun and wry, and paced really well to absorb information about the world. I'm so glad there are several more in the series to read because I can't get enough!
