Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
Get to know England's most-loved batsman in the compelling autobiography from Alastair Cook.
Watch. The. Ball.
It's just you. Standing at the crease. Waiting. The bowler is running. His arm swinging. The ball - 155 grams of cork, string and leather - is hurled at you. At 90 mph it travels 22 yards in under half a second....
Alastair Cook, one of England's most decorated players and highest test run scorer, knows what it is like to be your best under pressure. Yet at 33 he called time on his England career.
Come with him as he relives the fraught hours on the pitch, the desperate lows and astonishing highs, the paralysing anxiety that can send the best back home and the extraordinary battle of wills with yourself, the opposing players and even those supposedly on your own side.
This is cricket as you've never seen it. The view from the inside....

Absolutely outstanding
An honest and compelling insight into the professional career of one of England's finest ever players. Alistair not only invites the listener into aspects of his personal life but balances the book perfectly with his views on test match cricket, one day and 20/20 competitions. His views on what it takes to play from a psychological standpoint, and bonds formed through his experiences are interesting and refreshing. This is not the usual book set out in a chronological way, the book flows and the narrator sounds so much like Cookie that even after finishing the book I still can't believe that its not him. The best sporting autobiography I have listened to in a long time.

Knowledgeable Narrator??
Good stuff but why do all narrators of cricket autobiographies no nothing about cricket?

One of England's finest
I haven't finished this book yet however the honesty , warmth and insight provided by one of our greatest performers is truly brilliant and everything an autobiography should be.
I honestly couldn't recommend this book enough.
Top book, top pro and a true gentleman.

Pride
Shows what determination & humbleness can do, his stoic defence of principle & cricket matched with his skill as an opening batsman shines through. England have struggled to replace him which proves how hard the job is. Great listen even if you’re not a great cricket fan.

Bit of a ramble…
There are some nice anecdotes, but it really veers off topic and the whole thing will go from being very interesting one minute to completely dull and disconnected. The guy reading it sounds like Cook which is good, but there are lengthy pauses after most sentences which are annoying, and he mispronounces a number of well known names.

Brilliant, honest and eliminating
This is a brilliant listen and insight into Cooky. The only slight frustration is the narrator. He sounds somewhat like Chef but you’d have thought he could have learnt how to pronounce the players and former players names. Other than that, it was great

Uncanny Narration
Narration was so like Cook, I believed it was Chef himself. Beautiful performance and excellent insight into England's very best.

Excellent book and easy to listen to.
This was very enjoyable. The narrator was good. I'm not sure if he was chosen because his voice is similar to Alastair Cook or not but apart from comically mispronouncing Mark Boucher I thought he was very accomplished. I would recommend this to any cricket fan.

Dour but good for insomniacs
Nowhere as good or as fun as Derek Pringle's book or as insightful or as good as Foxy Fowler's book. It was lacking somehow in honesty and humour, but it did hold my interest for a few minutes before I fell asleep. It is now my go to book if struggling to sleep hence the 3 and 2 stars - best not to listen to it in the car. Really just rather dull.
