But when Alyssa makes a breakthrough that just might reveal the killer, she unknowingly puts herself in the crosshairs of a brutal maniac - one with an old score to settle.
Because the killer knows Alyssa very well, even if she doesn't know him. And he's determined that she'll know his name - even if he has to extract his deadly revenge on her and everything she loves.

A chilling story with a rage-filled antagonist.
This story was well-told and was compelling. I've read and listened to many crime novels but this antagonist was especially rage-centic. The forest passage was bone-chilling.
Nevertheless, at times I felt the detective was too self-deprecating but I suppose that is a character arc. Additionally, the ending felt abrupt.
Overall, good story and would recommend!

Do yourself a favor and GET THIS BOOK!!!!
This book is a real page turner! I could not stop listening. I can’t believe this is a debut into crime fiction. She reads like a well seasoned author.
The publisher’s summary barely scratches the surface and I almost didn’t get this but I can’t say it enough, just how glad I am to have found and decided to try this new author.
There is a unique and interesting plot that kept my attention, actually I didn’t want this book to end. The characters are fleshed out and likable. The protagonist is a detective, her husband is so understanding and helpful, he what every person on the force would probably dreams of but never finds. Fortunately his character is as believable as all the characters are.
Alyssa Wyatt is a detective. She’s working on a case of missing and murdered women. She believes there’s a serial killer. The other detective working with her sees an uncanny resemblance between her and the victims. Alyssa is empathic towards the families of those murdered because when she was nine years old her four year old brother was abducted and murdered. But the story doesn’t end there, that’s where it all began.
Kate Zane does an amazing job narrating.
This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION!!!!

really mixed feelings. mostly good with "buts"
this was overall a pretty good plot with reasonably interesting characters. There were 2 huge things which keep me from recommending it as a good listen:
1. The main character is Alyssa. It is an 11 hour book. If you took out all of the time Alyssa spent whining about how guilty she feels about her brother, or about XXXX being kidnapped, you could probably easily cut 3 hours from the book. It was simply about 800 more times whining than needed. I found myself wanting an easy "fast forward through yet another whine session" button. If it was not for the overdone whining about her guilt, I could have rated the story a solid 4 stars.
2. The narrator was Kate Zane. I think she should change her name to "Kade Zade". I am not sure if she had a sinus infection or allergies or what, and not sure how editors at audible let it pass, but I bet I said "BLOW YOUR NOSE!!!!" 250 times during the book. When the character "beliebes" or "dribes" it is a problem. And when the narrator says "She thought baby she should chage her plad" did she actually mean "baby" or was she trying to say "maybe" but couldn't because of the congestion. I albost stopped readid seberal tibes because the stuffed up dose was so addoyied and frustrateed to disted to!" If I could have given the performance a 0 I would have. Or, would hab...
If these things would not bother you, by all means, listen away, but you habe beed ward!

Charly Cox & Kate Zane👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Now this is what you call suspense/thriller/mystery!! I am definitely an extreme fan of this genre, in fact it’s the only one I listen to & I’m constantly on the hunt for a book like “All his pretty girls” but in my opinion, this is a first of its kind! With that said, there are other suspenseful thrillers that I’ve really enjoyed but I can honestly say that this is the first one that not only had me immediately hooked, it never fell flat..not even for a minute & there were moments where I was literally on the edge of my seat! I actually listened to it twice & the second time was just as good as the first I didn’t want it to end! I’m so excited to know that there is a part two, I’m hoping the audiobook doesn’t take long to be released..I CAN’T WAIT FOR THE TOYBOX!!

worst narrator I've ever listened to
Her voice lowers to a monotone whisper for 90% of this book. Unless you turn volume way up, then suddenly her voice goes loud for a few seconds nearly popping my eardrums. Might be a good story. I don't know because her flat monotone whispering drove me nuts. I want to return this book for a refund.

this is a great book. love the characters, the story line & the narrator. the story moved along quickly no dragging & very few over explaining just to fill in like color of the walls & ceiling tiles lol. none of that boring eye rolling crap. the story is told by both the killers, the police & victims side so LOTS of being rite with the killer in action! not just oh this is what the cops found & this is what must have been done by the mad man. a couple of total jaw dropping holy crap did not see that coming twists! i look forward to more from this author & narrator.
