Summary
A wildly original poetry collection written and read by one of the UK’s most exciting young comics. A poet who favours dark suits, lager and long hot baths, he works on BBC Four in Charlie Brooker's Newswipe and on Radio 4, doing his late night poetry show.
In 2009 he won the Edinburgh Comedy Award for his poetical recital The Slutcracker and has filmed some of his verse in black and white to overwhelming critical approval. Billed by Time Out as “He’s a genius plain and simple” Tim’s incomplete and unabridged reading of his book is hilarious and inventive, playful and punchy, and light and dark by turn.
Contains some strong language and content.

don't waste your time or money
don't waste your time or money, even if you are obsessed with Tim key.
i listened the whole way through because it was something to listen to instead of silence while driving to work. plus i tried to get my money's worth. that's the only reason i listened to it.
it's a collection of poems with some banjo and trumpet music in between. when i buy an audiobook it is always from the (hard to find on audible, at least in mobile) comedy section because i want to be entertained and have a laugh.
this didn't succeed. i probably laughed out loud twice. Tim tells poems from his book (i struggle to believe the publisher actually went ahead and published it in the first place). some are a little thought provoking but they mostly consist of using the words "shit" or "fuck" to attempt to provoke a laugh. more like toilet humour than clever comedy. the poems are usually very short and try to be as abruptly ended as one liner jokes although they don't have good enough effect.
it leaves me bewildered by the audible rating system accuracy when something like this has such high ratings. it makes me untrustworthy of finding something good to buy based on the ratings.

Tim Key - the definition of 'off the wall'...
...And more like skipping down the street with a carving knife, singing sea shanties whilst eating a cream tea.
In other words, listen to these weird and wonderful and always darkly amusing little poems and you'll see what I mean.
God bless you, Mr Key.

The Definitive Version Of This Book
I am an unashamed Key fan.
These poems will make no sense to anyone looking for meaning - there isn't any.
The joy is in the absurdity of the situations described and the feeling that these have just popped into his mind and have been committed to notebook, scraps of paper, playing cards, or whatever comes to hand, raw and unedited.
What makes the Audiobook version better than print or Kindle is Key's narration, always using the correct tone of voice, the emphasis on specific words, the occasional (deliberate) mispronunciation and the occasional piece of mid poem pontification.
The only very slight irritation is the use of very talented Joe Auckland to provide short musical stings in between sections. As much as I enjoy Joe's work with The Horne Section, I feel that this adds little to the listening experience, unlike the use of music in Key's Radio 4 shows.
I don't want to finish this review on a downbeat tone.
Key is a terribly unappreciated comic gem - Writer, Poet(!) Actor, One Man Show Performer, and from my own brief experience of meeting him, he is a really nice guy who clearly takes great pleasure from performing and from how much enjoyment his gives his audience.
I would love to see a collection of scripts from his radio and stage shows published one day.
Soon.
Please.

Acquired taste
Not one that I’ve acquired though. It’s an anthology (nae, collection) of nonsense. Saying any words does not make you a poet.

Audiobook version is a must
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Tim Key's outsider observations and highly musical timing had me laughing in bed.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Mario. He tolerates only so much.
What does Tim Key bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
The asides

Tim's poems are a joy!
Loved it, just a shame it wasn't a bit longer. His delivery makes it well worth it the drafts near the end are hilarious. Will listen more than once!

Nonsensical Excellency
Loved it, amusing, oddly thought provoking and passionately yet caringly read. Loved the music accompaniment too.
