How Jesus Rightly Divided the Bible

  • Summary

  • In this study I will show you two examples of how Jesus rightly divided the word of truth, the Bible. In Luke chapter five, Jesus attended a banquet in His honor given by Levi (aka Matthew), a tax collector Jesus had just called to become His disciple and follow Him. There were many other tax collectors and friends of Levi attending the celebration including some scribes and Pharisees watching from a distance, always seeking to find fault and accuse Jesus and His newly called disciples. We pick up the narrative in Luke chapter 5 verse 36 as Jesus began to teach via two short, easily overlooked parables.

"And he spake also a parable unto them; No man putteth a piece of a new garment upon an old; if otherwise, then both the new maketh a rent, and the piece that was taken out of the new agreeth not with the old." - Luke 5:36 KJV

As with all parables, Jesus illustrated a deeper spiritual truth; in this instance using a clothing metaphor.
