When Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm published their Children's and Household Tales in 1812, followed by a second volume in 1815, they had no idea that such stories as "Rapunzel", "Hansel and Gretel", and "Cinderella" would become the most celebrated in the world. Yet few people today are familiar with the majority of tales from the two early volumes, since in the next four decades the Grimms would publish six other editions, each extensively revised in content and style.

Not what I was expecting
The Audible blurb describes these as stories with no beginning, middle or end. I couldn’t understand this concept so downloaded them out of curiosity. In fact they are not stories so much as short lectures or chats, on topics ranging from the mundane (quilt-collecting, cooking and baseball) to the esoteric (philosophy and mathematics).
The blurb also says that these ‘stories’ are ‘narrated by the world’s most celebrated voices’, so I was expecting to hear from familiar actors, presenters or voice artists. This can be really helpful as a familiar voice is more soothing when you’re trying to get to sleep. However, so far the only reader familiar to me has been Tony Shalhoub. He does have a great voice and I was asleep before he got halfway through his talk on the history of maths!
So although these stories are not what I was expecting, I think most listeners will find something here to interest them and to help them sleep. And they’re free, so what have you got to lose?

Amazing!
I have struggled with sleep for many, many months, and have tried all manner of things both medical and physical.
I was a bit sceptical but I am very pleased to say this works. Not only do I fall asleep but I sleep for much longer, only waking once during the night.
Is this hypnosis?

Wouldn’t have believed it
Wouldn’t have believed it, had I not tried it... can’t say they are the most riveting stories but then that is the point, they are not meant to be...voices and tone perfect, must have been so difficult, to maintain but all the story tellers managed to...they may not work for everyone but worth a try.....
Great idea, definitely recommend.

The best sleep.
This is the best sleep story I've found. Relaxing voice tone, not a topic I'm into, interesting but not too interesting which is what you want when trying to sleep. I slept so well. I woke once and even though the story had ended o could here the voice in my head and I dropped off again.

Simply awesome
I especially like the mathematics and the Escoffier ones, I nodd off almost at once. My only problem is that the sleep mode function doesn't seem to be working properly for me - especially if I set the timer. I fell asleep to the Escoffier one (I think I might be able to make proper broth now) and a friend told me that despite the timer it had continued to the Pumpkin stew one. Apperantly it made her even more hungry after a night out...
