Summary

Confessions of a Token Black Girl is a snappy comedic tale framing Danielle's first-hand experiences in Wisconsin and other places as the perpetual "token Black girl", fraught with dark moments and hate crimes. It's a coming-of-age-story but instead of finding herself during a road trip, Danielle found herself through the effects of racism. This book humorously chronicles Danielle's quest for understanding what Black identity means to her - instead of what it means to everyone else.

Token black girl

Interesting insightful mini biography. Good to hear how Danielle was able to navigate her way through school and the obstacles of racism.

Excellent short book

Very well written and insightful. Funny at times and also an insight into a personal experience of e dry day racism.

Authentic

Narrator was superb! As a listener, you don't have to be from the USA to relate.

Relatable stories

Sadly, up to this day a lot of us can relate to these stories. Having gone through it and knowing how much it affects adult life, I worry about our son. I am thankful these books exist to give us scope and add humour.

God book

Acid comedy to address racism and racialisation.
More to be said about the experience in Peru as racialisation in Latin America is perceived and the expectation that everybody knows what's going on in the US. But the passage has a point, centred in a particular narrative. Well.... A good read.

Outstanding

Very informative for a white person like me. Makes you reflect deeper on all the forms of racism.

Man is a fool.

Antisemitism has been around they say for at least a couple of thousand years and is still here even though most of the Jews seem not to be Semitic. So the idea we are going to be post racial anytime soon seems fanciful. Most people apparently do not think of themselves as racist but they do not think of themselves as stupid or hypocritical either.

An excellent listen

Insightful, upsetting, funny and uplifting. Relate to so much of this as a Black woman.

She nailed it

Light hearted, but to the point. She nailed it. What it is to be the token non-stereotypical black girl. The narrator was perfect!
