Pet slimes. A potion brew-off. A creepy forest that no one will explain. What’s a 12-year-old warrior-in-training to do? As Runt and his friends continue their battle preparation, they face their biggest challenges yet - and it’s not just those zombies decked out in body armor (which is really weird, by the way). Runt’s got a brand new nemesis who will stop at nothing to claim the top spot in the warrior competition at school. And, to make matters worse, there’s a strange girl following him around wherever he goes.

My 11- and 7-year-olds love it!
I don't know anything about Minecraft, the characters, roles, etc. At first, I tuned the book out while the kids listened. But the narrator is so engaging, he's truly telling a story instead of reading. I found myself listening and even asking the kids questions to understand the Minecraft stuff. For the most part, they seem to enjoy explaining it to me... except when I pause the story to ask a question and they really just want to keep listening instead of explain basic Minecraft knowledge to a total "noob." 😆
Pro parent tip: the book ends on a big cliffhanger, so go ahead and get the second book too and have it downloaded on your device to continue the story. Hopefully that'll save you the hassle of having to talk your son through doing it while you drive and eventually having to pull over anyway to buy it. I am willing to bet money - or emeralds - on us listening to the entire series. And this "elder" won't tune it out. 😇
