Summary

From the author of the thrilling science-fiction epic Children of Time, winner of the prestigious Arthur C. Clarke Award. Eyes of the Void is the second high-octane instalment in Adrian Tchaikovsky's Final Architecture space opera trilogy.

What waits in the shadows as we fight our greatest foe?

After one great battle, the Architects disappeared. Yet humanity’s fragile peace is brief. For, forty years later, the galaxy’s greatest alien enemy has returned. This time, the artefacts that preserved entire worlds from destruction are ineffective. And no planet is safe.

The Human Colony worlds are in turmoil as they face extinction. Some believe alliances with other species can save them. Others insist humanity must fight alone. But no one has the firepower or technology to ensure victory, as the Architects loom ever closer.

Idris spent decades running from the last war’s horrors. Yet as an Intermediary, altered to navigate deep space, he’s one of humanity’s only weapons. He’s therefore forced back into action. With a handful of allies, Idris must find something–anything–to stop the Architects’ pitiless advance. But to do so, he must return to the nightmare of unspace, where his mind was broken and remade. What he discovers there will change everything.

Great second book cannot wait for the finale

Great book cannot wait for the next one in the series. Adrian is becoming one of my favourite sci fi authors and this book only confirms it.

Call Toby long worth

Can’t really remember if this was a go story, as the narrator was so bad, it was painful

Right up there with Hamilton and Asher

I am into modern science rooted sci-fi, and this is it. Absolutely infuriatingly real villainous characters you'd love to ask a certain Angel to step aside just so you can be the one to punch 'em in the face. Disturbingly relatable heroes and folk just trying to do right by thier own, set against the backdrop of a 'verse that just ain't fair damnit. I think I've fallen in love with a foul mouthed vicious little magnificently eloquent arsehole... and she drives a mean scorpion.

Amazing storytelling

A world created that draws you in and keeps you engaged. Superb performance by Sophie Aldred and I can’t wait for the next in the series.

a full book about a great mystery in the universe that we don't get to know

without the subtlety of Lovecraft, this kind of story is lame, I will not get the 3rd book...

Expanding and setting up

definitely feels like a "2nd book" in a series
while i enjoyed it greatly and loved that much more of this universe is shown to us, i would say it feels incomplete on its own, I'll be heading straight into the 3rd book from here, but if you're short on time, it's gonna be a lot to invest after book 1, if you want to see its story to an end

an aside, i pray for the poor Narrator Sophie's throat after voicing Ahab! :b great work all around

Totaly wonderful second book

Normaly I have an audible book to listen to before I go to bed ( years past I would have read a book but with age your eyes do complain about that sort of thing ) But this book and the one before it I found I was listening to it at work in the car at home totaly lost in the story and the rich world and spaces involved in it and the artful Narration by Sophie Aldred made it a wonderful combination Ordering the 3rd book as i write this. well worth a listen or a read if you have the time

thank you Adrian Tchaikovsky for you wonderful story

Does anyone know what’s going on?

This is a long drawn out, impossibly complicated yarn, with all dialogue lifted from an Eastenders script. I tried. I really tried. But I can’t figure out the plot. What’s happening..?

A solid sequel

Having read books 1 and 2 back to back this latter has less novelty but lacks none of the energy and drive of the first. A necessary read if you’ve read book 1
