Summary

Following his explosive #1 New York Times bestseller, Red Notice, Bill Browder returns with another gripping thriller chronicling how he exposed Vladimir Putin's campaign to steal and launder hundreds of billions of dollars from Russia—and how Putin is willing to kill anyone who stands in his way.

When Browder’s young Russian lawyer, Sergei Magnitsky, was beaten to death in a Moscow jail in 2009, Browder cast aside his business career and made it his life’s mission to pursue justice for Sergei. One of the first steps of that mission was to uncover who had killed Sergei and profited from the $230 million corruption scheme that he had exposed. As Browder and his team tracked the money that flowed out of Russia—through the Baltics and Cyprus and on to Western Europe and the Americas—they discovered that Vladimir Putin himself was one of the beneficiaries of the crime.

After Western law enforcement agencies began freezing the money, Putin retaliated. He and his cronies set honey traps for Browder, hired agents to chase him around the globe, murdered more of Browder’s Russian allies, and enlisted some of the West’s top lawyers and politicians in an attempt to bring Browder down. Putin will stop at nothing to protect his wealth and power. As Freezing Order reveals, Browder’s campaign was a main impetus for Putin’s intervention in the 2016 US presidential election.

At once a financial caper, an international adventure, and a passionate plea for justice, Freezing Order is a stirring morality tale about how one man can take on one of the most dangerous and ruthless villains in the world.

An important Red Notice sequel

A story of courage, persistence and some good fortune, dramatically told. Putin’s values, codes of conduct and oversight of a corrupt tyranny are documented here for all to see. Remarkably there are still those among us who are prepared to give him latitude.

Extremely brave man

the author is an extremely brave, tenacious, dedicated person, excellent read//listen. I imagine he sleeps with one eye open, there can't be many living soles who have managed to put one over Putin and lived to tell the tale.

Another great book from Bill Browder

Bill Browder is a brave man. Hearing his in depth descriptions of the pressure and fear of taking on what seem insurmountable opponents and his dedication to finding justice for his friend are inspirational.

Shocking

It’s difficult to believe these type of shocking events happen in the modern world. Some caveats - Bill presents a lot of facts with little evidence presented in the book to support. Also at times is feels like a biased one side of the story. However Bill is a great story teller, and even if bits are exaggerated for dramatic effect, it’s still a shocking story. I would highly recommend as an insight into the challenges faced as a Russian activist.

He's definitely a good storyteller!

And this is a key story of our times.

It's fascinating and really highlights the new cold war battle.

Bill addresses those that have questioned him (John Moscow - BH - Natalia V - Andrei the filmaker). In part, it feels like a way for him to answer some of his doubters/other side.

The people he talks about, the tactics and Putins regime are verifiable dark actors.
Sanctions are a good weapon to have to combat their nefarious advances. This is very personal and politicised though.

His book reads like the interviews and presentations he gives. Always very precise, rehersed but always leaves me with more questions that are never answered. Is it really a tale of 100% Good v's 100% Evil as he portrays?

I would sense there's lots of shades of grey not focused on in these stories...

Still, an excellent read/listen!
