Summary

Greek myths are among the most complex and influential stories ever told. From the first millennium BC until today, the myths have been repeated in an inexhaustible series of variations and reinterpretations.

Chaos was the origin of everything, the beginning of time. From Chaos sprang forth three primordial deities, Gaea, Tartarus, and Eros.

Greek mythology is a comprehensive and engrossing guide to Greek and Roman mythology. This brilliant reference offers clear explanations of every character and locale, and captures the essence of these timeless tales. Get to know the Greek gods and goddesses, from the mighty Zeus, to the temperamental Poseidon, the beautiful Aphrodite, and every character from A to Z. These stories can do more than just entertain; they can also inspire and teach us lessons that were penned by the Greeks themselves.

Starting with the creation myth, this audiobook will take you through the stories of the Titans, introduce the Olympians, bring in the demigods, and sneak a peek at the monsters that made up the mythology. Up on Mount Olympus, along the shores of the Mediterranean, and deep in the underworld, gods, goddesses, demigods, and creatures linger in the mind and stories of an ancient culture.

From the gods and goddesses of Mount Olympus and the heroes of the Trojan War to the nymphs, monsters, and other mythical creatures that populate these ancient stories, Greek myths were more than just stories and epic tales. Take a deeper look, and you will uncover the lessons, philosophies, wisdom, and even warnings that these myths taught. In truth, they are still relevant to this day. All the secrets of one of the most fascinating civilizations the world has ever known lie within this audiobook.

We follow the drama of the Trojan War and the wanderings of Odysseus. We hear the tales of Jason and the Golden Fleece, Cupid and Psyche, and mighty King Midas. We discover the origins of the names of the constellations. Both a reference text for scholars of all ages, and an audiobook to simply enjoy Greek mythology is a classic not to be missed.

The gods and heroes of these legends hold up a mirror to the human condition, embodying universal characteristics and truths - whether it be the courage of Perseus, the greed of Midas, the vaulting ambition of Icarus, the vengeance of Medea, or the hubris of Niobe - these traits are the basis for immortal dramas and rich narratives, as profound as they are entertaining, which form the bedrock of our culture and literature today and remain relevant and fascinating for all listeners.

Too much exposition

We were hoping to listen to versions of the original myths, not long winded yet superficial background and interpretation.

This narrator is so good and the story is so well written! The characters have their own disparate personalities and come to vibrant life with the voice the narrator gives to them. Highly recommended for any age group!
