About this listen
Isaiah Quintabe, the genius PI who combines book smarts, street smarts and enough blistering action to melt the pavement of East Long Beach, is back with a new adventure. Fresh off the beating he took at the hands of a gang of ex-Abu Ghraib thugs working as paramilitary contractors, IQ is determined to build a life for himself with his new girlfriend, Grace.
For once, he wants to be normal - a normal guy, with a normal PI business, doing the best he can.
But this is IQ, and trouble is never far behind him.
Joined by his faithful band of fast-talking, sharp-tongued partners, Deronda and Dodson, the cases are wild, the mysteries twisty and the driving fast.

Not in character!
The three previous books in the IQ series I really enjoyed, especially the first two. However with this one, I felt like IQ's character completely changed, it felt like a rushed departure from his interesting character. I wouldn't recommend this book.

Oh dear.
It's a sign that a writer has completely run out of ideas when they have to rely on ridiculous plot devices and this plot device is as ridiculous as it gets.

jump the shark
Sure it's still a page turner or keep-listener, but the plot goes way way ott. there's a plot device that I won't reveal but it's central and it's a sign that the writer has run out of road. ain silly, totally implausible. As to the performance it has two tones. Calm and hyperbolic/hysterical which he usual switches to for women.
I only don't ask for a refund cos I read to the end but Joe, start somewhere new with fresh characters and let these go.

Not as good as the rest of the IQ series
This is not at all as good as the others in the wonderful Joe Ide IQ series. I would not recommend it.
The protagonist has a split personality and it is really tortured writing, clunky and becomes boring. I found myself thinking ‘oh just get on with solving it’ instead of talking to yet another of the personalities, each of whom had no redeeming qualities. It is thought provoking as to the liabilities of the character with the split personality for their actions but I have struggled to listen to it.
I would recommend the others in the series but not this one.

Why only 2*
Story line was good BUT the continuous swearing was why I didn’t finish listening to the story. I think Audible should inform user when a book contains an horrific amount of swearing especially the F an C words which I personally find disturbing. I would not have downloaded the book if I had known before hand
