About this listen
Terror at the International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta.
Hot Air, a thriller filled with passion, romance, survival and courage. Sean Sandoval, half Navajo, half Irish, has bravery in his blood and passion in his heart. From boyhood to one of the Air Force's elite pararescuemen, his path in life is always connected to air.
As a hot air balloon pilot Sean communes with that air. As a pararescuer, he flies into danger to saves lives.
An enemy combatant from the mountains of Afghanistan, presumed killed, arrives in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and is bent on such revenge that he puts thousands of people at the annual International Balloon Fiesta in lethal danger.
Will Sean be able to stop the extremist in time, or will the murderer accomplish his mission first?

We are at the pleasure of the winds
I confess, it was the beauty of the cover and a personal love of watching hot air balloons which led me to request a complimentary copy of Hot Air from the rights holder, via Audiobook Boom. And my thanks for this generous gift. This review is entirely my own.
The story surprised me. I had expected, from the blurb, a fast paced action thriller and, yes, there is that within the book but it is far more. It is the life story of Sean, son of a Navajo father and Irish mother, and of those closest to him. Briefly prefaced by Sean's present feeling of something wrong, it then moves into the past, tracing lives through Sean's growing and adult years before returning, finally, to the beginning.
The writing is simple, almost innocent, and in short chapters, each ended and prefaced by a snippet of music. The author, Denise Kahn, herself reads the book. Her voice is warm and full, slowly and clearly paced to perfectly fit the text, and her interpretation of all of the protagonists' conversations is very well done, both male and female, distinctive and with appropriate accents. The story is enchanting and the whole is beautiful, a pleasure to hear.
I loved this unexpected story with it's tapestry of family, friendship, love, war and vengeance. It is thought provoking and very visual with the gentlest of background hints of there being something more than simple living to life, a soft guiding hand for those who can listen and hopes for peace for all. Thought provoking, It would make a stunning film in the hands of a sympathetic director. A definite recommendation for anyone who likes to get to know the protagonists as well as enjoying realistic action.
