No legacy so rich as honesty.....
A brilliant polemic from David Baddiel. Antisemitism is THE propulsive blind spot that endows the left. To point this out seems to invalidate one's left leanings instantly. It's as tragic as it is insidious that ignorance is often bold (like the rebel) but knowledge reserved. Thus, one must retain sovereignty of the mind, as Baddiel does beautifully and with immense clarity in Jews Don't Count. I'm off to buy my hard copy.

A must listen
Well written, funny in places but thought provoking in more. Really glad I listened as it made me aware that I am guilty of the thinking described and as someone who considers themselves on the progressive left that's something I need to correct.

Thought provoking
This book clarifies some of the inconsistencies I've noticed when some commentators write/talk about antisemitism as if it's not so important as other prejudices. Why does antisemitism seem to rank as less important than prejudice against black/Asian/trans/disabled people? David Baddiel makes a clear and rational case for treating antisemitism for what it is - irrational prejudice and unfairness against Jewish people.

Clearly and succinctly presented, a worthy read. Should be considered as reading for inclusion in the school cirriculum on racism.

Very interesting
I am unsure to start with a review on a book that is so well written and researched by the author.
With that point made I am keen to open my mind to views and opinions I may not understand. I have consciously tried over the past few years to actively seek literature like this.
This is fascinating and a book I will endeavour to go back to. I feel that even though this was a short book I may have missed a number of points.
I would recommend.

Should be compulsory in Schools
I never truly understood antisemitism until now. I couldn't quite understand what the fuss was about in the labour party and why they would be antisemitic, it seemed difficult to grasp. Now I know why. Antisemitism is difficult to see because of its complex nature and its contradictions. This is what Baddiel explains so well.
How can a people be both all-powerful but at the same time be "scum"?
Are they seen as having white privilege or not?
How come they are seen has having obvious characteristics but at the same time no one knows often who they are?
How are they both oppressed and oppressors?
The "haters" see them as rich and as undeserving poor refugees?
How can you be completely opposed to racism but be antisemitic at the same time?
You can be classed as a Jew but not be religious? - Baddiel says of course that the Nazis didn't care whether you went to the synagogue or not.
They are an ethnic group but how many people would identify them as BAME?
Why does no one insist on Jews playing Jewish parts but a non-trans playing a trans can result in a film being cancelled?
I now understand why Jews have never felt "safe" and why the MPs in the labour party had to leave. What is interesting is how these tropes have been around since the middle ages. The current Geopolitics is not touched on much by Baddiel as that is a whole other story but he makes it very clear that he has no connection to, and doesn't have to make excuse as to the behaviour of, the state of Israel.

insightful and a perspective often ignored
This was recommended through a book club and made an interesting and thought provoking read. From the outside there were definitely elements that I would not have considered most poignantly the silence after many attacks and targeted abuse. it was eye opening, well written, short and to the point. Definitely worth a read and a think.
