Summary

Marseille, 1815.

Excellent narrator!

My favourite part is still the first 1/4 of the book, before becoming " comte"

Suspenseful!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes - who knew that Dumas had written such a suspenseful and exciting novel? After having read The Three Musketeers I had no appreciation of his artistic flair, that of the thriller. Excited and can hardly wait for Part 2 to be available on Audible. This truly defines the saying: to wait with bated breath.

What does Éric Herson-Macarel bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Monsieur Herson-Macarel's obvious enjoyment and respectful oration brings a certain depth to the auditor's appreciation, in my opinion.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, without a doubt. (I am most dissatisfied with the fact that Part 2 is not available!).

So beautifully written

Very good narration, engaging and fun plot. Could not stop listening. Great for brushing up on French language.

Gripping and beautifully written

Buried treasure, pirates, prison escapes, storms at sea, labyrinthine plot and colourful character caste to rival Harry Potter. A classic but also a readily gripping pot boiler. Also a product of it’s time vis a vis social norms, but that is in itself an education
