Story
Midnight. Some call it the witching hour. Others call it the devil’s hour. Here in the graveyard, midnight is a very special time. It is a time when ghostly spirits are at their strongest, when the veil between our world and theirs is at its thinnest. Legend has it, that while most of the world is asleep, the lack of prayers allow the spirits to communicate under the cover of darkness, among the headstones, their whispers rustling in the leaves of the old oak trees. But if you’re here in the graveyard, you can tell yourself it’s just the wind....

In Haunted Liverpool 34, cult author Tom Slemen documents some strange beings, including faceless terrors, moving statues, real-life vampires, shape-shifting entities, and time-slips. In this audiobook, you will not listen to the usual lame and hackneyed worn-out stories of ghosts; you will listen to original stories concerning the Lost House of Sefton Park, the terrifying visitor to a 24-hour supermarket in the wee small hours who spread terror among the staff with the macabre contents of his holdall.

Story
Editors Randy Chandler and Cheryl Mullenax put the call out to horror writers and editors of extreme stories, the hardcore stuff that breaks boundaries and trashes taboos, the transgressive tales you can't "unread" (as Chuck Palahniuk says). Some of the stories you'll find here are loaded with very graphic descriptions of violence, sex, and depravities, while others may contain only one shocking moment of brutality. In others, the hardcore aspect may be less graphic and subtler than you might expect.

Story
Fleeing from a traumatic break-in, Londoners Paul and Tricia Feenan sell up to escape to the isolated Holiwell village where Tricia has inherited a property. Scattered throughout the settlement are centuries-old stones used during the Great Plague as boundary markers. No plague-sufferer was permitted to pass them and enter the village. The plague diminished, and the village survived unscathed, but since then each year the village trustees have insisted on an ancient ceremony to renew the village boundaries.

The Necronomicon was not the first book by H.P. Lovecraft to terrify readers with tales of dark and twisted horrors from beyond. No, the Al-Azif, or Book of the Insect, is the first work that told mankind of Cthulhu, Azathoth, and other terrors. Indeed, it was the book that inspired "The Mad Arab" Abdul Al-Hazred to write its more famous successor.

It is said that dreams are harmless, that they are nothing more than the meaningless fancies of an unconscious mind. It’s only a dream. It’s only a dream. It’s only a dream. This, of course, is something we tell ourselves when we wake up screaming in the dead of night. We repeat the mantra in order to bring ourselves back to reality, in order to remind ourselves that there is nothing to fear.

Made in Britain
This audio book is a selection of short horror tales crafted in the dead of the night and advised to listen with the lights on by some of the best British authors - "The British are coming!!"
I enjoyed the fact that these were short stories, so you can read a full story when time is limited. The stories are varied and cover a wide range of creepiness with some brilliant twists
The narrator, Hannibal Hills, really brought the stories to life, excellent narration, I would defiantly listen to more by this narrator

Decent Collection of Twisted Stories
I thought overall this was a good variety of stories. Some were more to my liking and others I had a hard time getting into. Anthologies written by different authors tends to give you a lot of great stories versus a collection from the same author. I’d say this book covers the full spectrum from meh to wow. The nice thing is that none of them resembled the others and each one was a unique experience all to itself.
It was a good book of gruesome stories and I felt like the ones that stuck with me were more gory than terrifying, but no over the top gore where you would say not for the feint of heart. I didn’t ever feel like much of it was truly horror except for a select few, although to be fair, my threshold for horror is quite high. My favorite one felt more like a punk rendition of horror and became a splatter GG Allin show.
Hannibal Hills did a great job with the narration. Those familiar with his work know exactly the performance he provides and that he always maintains the same level of mastery. I even felt like in a few stories he brought out a tone of narration I hadn’t heard before and I had to check to see if there was more than one narrator.
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Fun little thing.
Not my favorite book but this is a fun little book full of “horror” stories, gets kind of repetitive at times though and lack of narrative variety might have contributed but it’s mostly just the stories being repetitive or predictable.
Still a fun book to listen to and would definitely pick this up!

A good collection with ups and downs.
A good collection of shorts I haven't seen or heard in other collections. Most trend towards Tales from the Cryptkeeper style pulp, but that's not a bad thing. There are also a couple of pieces here which unfortunately assume that chaingunning the listener with shock imagery is a substitute for a plot, and I found these nearly unlistenable, but these are in the minority.
