Summary

Before science, there were myths. Today we see them as fiction, but in the past myths were a way to explain all the natural phenomena that surrounded mankind.

History Academy’s brand-new book will tell you all about ancient Greek, Egypt, Norse, and Japanese mythologies.

Japanese mythology:

A goblin without a body and a monster without a face. A resourceful Samurai and a loyal daughter. A Moon Spirit and a Dragon King.

This collection of popular Japanese Myths brings ancient traditions to modern readers in an atmosphere of unrest, adventure, fear, and enchantment. Taken from the original works, these tales can be terrifying, but hilarious and poetic at the same time.

A deep dive into Japanese Mythology, including extraordinary tales, malevolent spirits, disturbing monsters and supernatural creatures.
By listening to this book, you will enter a world that is neither legend nor history. You might consider this book a sort of "hybrid" between reality and fantasy. The text is based on folk tales, beliefs, and sightings, but also on old official documents that are often more disturbing than horror stories.

Monsters, ghosts, mythological beings and supernatural phenomena of all sorts haunt the folklore and popular culture of Japan. So called "Yokai", Creepy Hybrid creatures, half human and half animal, manifesting in infinite shapes and sizes, from the Tengu Mountain Goblins and Kappa Water Spirits, to Shape Shifting Foxes and Long Tongue Lickers.

You will be plunged into a world where we constantly wonder whether what we see is real or the fruit of our imagination, our fear of the dark, or repulsion for dirt or our distrust of the different.

Norse mythology:

Much of the Norse Mythology was written between the 12th and 14th centuries AD, but it draws on earlier events and traditions, part of a culture transmitted by the tales of the scalds, bards and poets of the Nordic Tradition. Among swords with legendary powers forged by dwarves and blacksmiths who went down in history, among Valkyries willing to do anything to protect the beloved hero, among epic battles, sea voyages, plundering and prophecies, we will discover the most fascinating stories and the legendary Norse Myths.

Runes are ancient symbols that hold deep meaning. Each one shows a glimpse into the fascinating Norse Cosmology, with its gods and heroes. It was Odin, the god of wisdom, magic and war, who created the runes. Legend has it that he spent nine days and nine nights hanging from the great World Tree, pierced by a spear. From the blood that dripped from his wound, runes were created. Sigurd, the hero who defeated the dragon, learned to use the runes from the words of a Valkyrie.

From the harsh lands of Scandinavia come the stories and legends of the gods and goddesses of the North: mighty Thor, devious Loki, enchanting Freyja and the great Father of All, Odin. Illustrations of gods, ice giants, trolls and monsters enliven these tales with a riot of color and magic.

Greek mythology:

Let yourselves be amazed by the wonderful stories about gods and goddesses like Zeus and Athena, heroes like Perseus and monsters like Medusa.

Every myth present in the book is supported by additional material regarding ancient Greeks’ history and culture to help our listeners understand the cultural background of the time. The book also includes a genealogical tree to clarify the relationships between the different characters.

Egyptian mythology:

The book includes detailed descriptions about ancient Egypt’s historical and cultural background and maps to help you find where the events took place.

Do not waste your time or credit

Shockingly badly read. Book is badly organised too. Very disappointing. Some reviews said they enjoyed the stories but they're read at such a speed and without inflection that I find it very hard to believe.

Annoying narration of an encyclopaedia

Essentially a really annoying narration with over exaggerated accenting through sentences. The story isn’t a story it’s a tedious encyclopaedia almost. Very very dull

Very interesting about each of them

I am a book fanatic, I love it! But sometimes I like to listen to a good narrator tell the story of the book, in my opinion, the narrator did an excellent job with the voice, as it gets inside each of the stories.
