Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Narrated by BAFTA winning actress Joanna Scanlan.

From the prize-winning author of Reasons to be Cheerful comes a story about the ebb and flow of female friendship over half a lifetime.

Susan and Norma have been best friends for years, at first thrust together by force of circumstance (a job at The Pin Cushion, a haberdashery shop in 1990s Leicestershire) and then by force of character (neither being particularly inclined to make friends with anyone else). But now, 30 years later, faced with a husband seeking immortality and Norma out of reach on a wave of professional glory, Susan begins to wonder whether she has made the right choices about life, love, work and, most importantly, friendship.

Nina Stibbe's new novel is the story of the wonderful and sometimes surprising path of friendship: from its conspiratorial beginnings, along its irritating wrong turns, to its final gratifying destination.

Disappointing for a Nina Stibbe book

Narrator devalued the content. Made it come across as an airport novel. I’d not recommend

Not great.

Just ramblings with no actual story line. The ending just didn’t make any sense, I thought l'd love Joanne narrating this as l love her as an actress but she just seemed to shout. Most her lines were loud, cutting and abrupt with no softness whatsoever. Wouldn't recommend.

Extremely entertaining listen

I'm glad I decided to give this new novel a try, having loved Nina's previous books, in spite of some negative reviews.
The narration was great and the story funny, heart warming and gut wrenching in places.
I loved the ending! I encourage you to give it a try....

I miss it.

A great read/listen. I miss it the characters and will definitely listen again as there is more to this story than love lost and found.
