Summary

A collection of short stories featuring the redoubtable ‘heart specialist’, Parker Pyne. This volume, in its contemporary Agatha Christie Collection livery, perfectly illustrates Agatha Christie’s critically–acclaimed foray into light-hearted, romantic mysteries.

Mrs Packington felt alone, helpless and utterly forlorn. But her life changed when she stumbled upon an advertisement in The Times which read: ‘ARE YOU HAPPY? IF NOT, CONSULT MR PARKER PYNE’.

Equally adept at putting together the pieces of a marriage or the fragments of a murder mystery, Mr Parker Pyne was possibly the world’s most unconventional private eye – and certainly its most charming.

Critic reviews

"Crimes of the heart were his forte." (Observer)

"These extend beyond the classic murders to oddities such as the exploits of Mr Parker Pyne, roly-poly 'specialist in every kind of human trouble' who will, for a fee, cure his clients of unhappiness." (The Sunday Times)

Something completely different

I enjoyed these strange tales, out of the usual Christie mould. Needless to say they are unlikely stories, but ingenious and a nice change from middle class murders.

Fabulous Agatha Christie!

Wonderful Agatha Christie’s stories take me back to the pleasure I felt at reading them when I was young and endearing Hugh Fraser reads them very well.
For those who enjoy clever plots and great old fashioned characters.

Just excellent!

I had no idea what to expect from this set of short stories but, I throughly enjoyed them. What a hidden gem, I wish there were more, I love how all the stories developed, the characters were all interesting and I would def venture into more of Agatha Christie’s less known novel

Great original selection of literary puzzles 👌

Wonderful collection of stories originally published in 1934 and introducing Miss Lemon and Ariadne Oliver for their first appearances. Parker Pyne himself is just as clever but less annoying than Poirot!
These are not typical "whodunits" but entertaining puzzles and each story will keep you guessing. Hugh Fraser narrates perfectly and for once, each chapter fits one story.
