Editor reviews

Adam Sims' performance of Petrified is harrowing; his menacing tone is hard to forget. Listeners looking for a short and evocative horror story should take heed - this audiobook will not disappoint you. Petrified is the sequel to Masterton's Basilisk. The hero, Nathan Underhill, is at it again. His experiments and creations are the stuff of nightmares. Masterton is in his element here; the mythical and otherworldly come alive in Underhill's lab. The audio opens with a dramatic car accident, an unconscious child, and a supernatural coincidence. If you enjoy horror, plot, and divine intervention, you'll love this audiobook.

Summary

The latest from a “master of modern horror” - Braydon Harris is convinced God has it in for him. Although Suki, his little girl, seemed thrilled to be kidnapped from her mom’s parents’ house, an electric storm has hit, and it looks like the Lord isn’t going to make it easy for Braydon to get away. Braydon’s right. A huge truck jack-knifes in front of him, his car catches alight, and Sukie winds up in hospital with terrible burns – burns which only exacerbate the terrible nightmare she’s had for years about scary things flying through the sky, like shadows...

Good and gory

This was a good story and was well narrated. I do like the occasional horror but this was a little more gory than I like; however I kept going and enjoyed the non-gory part.

Seriously over the top story and performance

Was like some horror story from the 1960's. So over the top both book and narrator

Wish Id read mote than one review. Time wasted!

Unbelievable. Who repeatedly puts themselves in jeopardy? In suspicious circs? Nah! Rode with it for a time, but accepting another probably drugged item was the last straw.

Mythical Creatures

Rubbish unbelievable story, not particularly well written and the overuse of ‘mythical creatures’ in every other line really grates. Don’t waste your time.

Great story but needs a different narrator

I loved the idea of the story but the writing could be improved a bit. With the narrator I found difficult to like the characters. He read it like they were always cross and condescending. I did make it to the end but don't think I would rush to listen to another with this narrator.

Beyond Imagination... Unfortunately.

Story about a scientist working on bringing to life mythological entities and it just goes beyond even the longest stretch of (at least my) imagination/ belief.
I am new to Graham Masterton and this book didn't make me want to read any of his other works which may be a tad harsh.
Okay when reading Horror and Fantasy you expect the fantastic but this just never sat right with this reader.
Wasn't a bad yarn just not for me.
Narrated well though!
