Another superb installment

The Niccolo series just gets better and better. Dunnett’s research is immaculate, her characters fascinating, her writing beautifully crafted.

Race of Scorpions

A favourite book well presented. Good voice representations of various international characters. I recommend it.

Terrific

It was worth waiting for! Complex, brain-teasing, moving. A shock to the senses too: vivid colour and even smell.

Fabulous storytelling fabulously read

I read this series of historical novels when they were originally published.
It’s been a joy to rediscover them through a voice artist of such extraordinary talent. The reading enhances the stories and makes the complex storylines easier to follow and brings all the characters to life.

Not my favourite

Struggled to read this, and the audio did help a little. This is a tale of intricate revenge, and sometimes the machinations are a little too complex to believe. It all boils down in the end to The Feud. I get the feeling that this book, set in a strange and unusual setting, Cyprus, is a bridge book. I shall continue with the set, and may come back to rewrite this review. Dorothy Dunnett is a wonderful teller of tales, and her Lymond series is utterly superb. This set holds promise, but this book seems to hold out rather. Persevere.
