About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Portia Daniels' life is sorted. She has a perfect man (Jason, a hot TV producer from Ireland), a perfect apartment (in lower Manhattan), a perfect job (writing for TV). Best of all for her, unlike the rest of her family, she lives in perfect obscurity.

On the other hand, it's all drama with her mother, Dessie, Kerry-born queen bee of hit reality show, Ladies of Los Angeles, and sisters, Vinnie, a supermodel-turned-Insta-guru and Ariel, a Tik-Tok teen sensation.

When Jason drops a bombshell that leaves her life in tatters, Portia flees to be with her family. Her timing could not be worse though as scandal engulfs Vinnie's empire and Ariel bratty behaviour gets out of hand. As for Dessie, she is clearly hiding something. It seems like the glamour and gossip on which Dessie built her empire might just be its downfall.

But maybe Portia has been fooling herself about living a 'real' life? She might be about to get as big a wake-up call as her mother and sisters.

From the bright lights of LA to the rugged charm of west Kerry, Reality Check is a delicious look behind the scenes of what really goes down in Tinseltown.

Reality tv meets Ireland

Really enjoyed this listen. It has a mix of reality tv life with Ireland but such a great story behind it that had my emotions up and down. Very Colleen hoover vibes

This was great fun!

I really enjoyed this book! The contrast between an Irish family & the LA reality tv life made for a great fun story with some more serious topics covered along the way. I loved the characters & would enjoy a follow up to see how it all works out.

Enjoyable Story

Really enjoyed this book. The characters were likeable and storyline wasn’t predictable. I’m not into reality tv so I wasn’t sure it would be for me but I’m delighted I gave it a go. Well done to the narrator - so many characters with a lot of variation handled superbly. Looking forward to the next book from this author! (Note - despite the mention in Chapter 40, you should never feed the deer in Dublin’s Phoenix Park!)

Light but with enough depth that keeps you engaged. Loved the characters and the story gives you inspiration for a different love story.

So much heart, loads of fun!

I loved this debut by Vicki Notaro. Glamourous, scandalous and so much fun, with lots and lots of heart. A lovely summer read, perfect for poolside company.
