Summary
A breathtaking exploration of memory and what it means to be human, Recursion is the follow-up novel to the smash-hit thriller Dark Matter, by Blake Crouch.
What if someone could rewrite your entire life?
'My son has been erased.'
Those are the last words the woman tells Barry Sutton before she leaps from the Manhattan rooftop. Deeply unnerved, Barry begins to investigate her death, only to learn that this wasn’t an isolated case. All across the country, people are waking up to lives different than the ones they fell asleep to. Are they suffering from False Memory Syndrome, a mysterious, new disease that afflicts people with vivid memories of a life they never lived? Or is something far more sinister behind the fracturing of reality all around him?
Miles away, neuroscientist Helena Smith is developing a technology that allows us to preserve our most intense memories and relive them. If she succeeds, anyone will be able to re-experience a first kiss, the birth of a child, the final moment with a dying parent.
Barry’s search for the truth leads him on an impossible, astonishing journey as he discovers that Helena’s work has yielded a terrifying gift - the ability not just to preserve memories but to remake them...at the risk of destroying what it means to be human.
Critic reviews
"Recursion takes mind-twisting premises and embeds them in a deeply emotional story about time and loss and grief and most of all, the glory of the human heart." (Gregg Hurwitz, international best-selling author of Orphan X)
"A fantastic read." (Andy Weir, number one New York Times best-selling author of The Martian)

Outstanding!
A fascinating concept that was well explored. It seemed a little slow at first but by halfway through the book it was as if you had listened to two entire stories already with the best to come. For most of the book you had no idea what was coming next. This was an audible version of a real page-turner!

Got confused but stayed for the ride
If you enjoyed Dark Matter then you'll probably enjoy this. The same pace, atmosphere and style except this time, Crouch is toying with a different way to break the laws of physics.
I got a bit confused with this alternative way so lost the ability to see if there were logical problems that has been plastered over and also lost a bit of understanding about how the plot was developing - such was a shame - and with audio book it's difficult to go backwards and listen again.
All that notwithstanding, I enjoyed the book and I'm glad I listened.

Great sequel to dark matter
This was well worth the read. If you lived dark matter you’ll love this and if you love this you’ll love dark matter even more.

Good, not as good as Dark Matter.
Good storytelling and an interesting take on time travel. Barry and Helena are both fantastic characters that you'll be rooting for as the story builds to the end...

One of my favourites
This could be one of my favourite books I’ve ever read. Loved every minute. Not bogged down and every scene moves the story on superbly. I’ll be picking up all of Crouch’s books after this.

A must-read for technothriller fans
This is my second Blake Crouch novel I've read, and definitely one of the best books I've listened to thus far. I don't know how he does it but somehow, he took everything that made Dark Matter great, and improved upon that with this book, while avoiding the one problem I had with the other book - The plot gets going right from the start.

Good story, gets a little confusing.
I liked this story, at times it was very fast paced and I couldn't stop but with the complex nature of the story and listening on work commutes it was sometimes hard to pick up where you left off.
Narration was excellent!
