Summary
The long-awaited autobiography of one of rock's true megastars. Rod Stewart (aka Rod The Mod and to a very select few, Dad) was born the working-class son of a Scottish plumber in North London. He was never, as some stories later had it, a professional footballer or a gravedigger, though he did become a bit of a singer - and a fairly good one at that. Rod started out in the early 1960s, playing alongside acts like The Rolling Stones, before his distinctively raspy voice and natural onstage presence caught the eye of the iconic guitarist, Jeff Beck.
An often-interesting two year stint with Beck’s group paved the way into the angst-inducing (for the world's hoteliers) five years with the Faces, whose offstage antics with alcohol, hotel rooms, and groupies have become the stuff of legend. And during all this, he found a spare moment to write "Maggie May", among a few others, and launch a solo career that has seen him sell in excess of 200 million records, be inducted into the Hall of Fame twice, and play the world’s largest ever concert. Not bad, as he says, for a bloke with a frog in his throat.
And then, there is his not so private life: marriages, divorces and affairs with some of the world’s most beautiful women - Bond girls, movie stars and supermodels - a struggle with steroid dependency, and a brush with cancer which very nearly saw it all slip away. Rod’s is an incredible life, and here, thrillingly and for the first time, he tells the whole thing, leaving no knickers under the bed. Joyously entertaining and at times deeply moving, this is the remarkable story of a guy with one hell of a voice - and one hell of a head of hair.

Rod Line and Sinker
Would you listen to Rod again? Why?
Yes. This is a very honest autobiography. He tells us some things we have not heard before and debunks several "Truths" we thought we all knew. Several stories the Media put about and he let run at the time are here shown up as media hype.

Rod. Because this is his story.

It made me laugh several times.

I was surprised at the honesty shown in this book and it gave me a new perspective on the man behind the media hype.

Rather like marmite!!!!
My husband and I listened to this and swung between loving liking loathing admiring and gob smacked ha ha.
Interesting account of his life and he needed a good shaking at times and indeed to grow up.
Having seen him speaking on TVs in chat shows he came across as a very level headed dad and we admired him - listening to his story he was a jack the lad alright and down right unpleasant at times to his ladies.
Occasionally he was very self opinionated/arrogant other times he reflected sadly on his bad behaviour and we were rather disappointed he hadn't read it himself which we think would have added to the story with him taking the mickey out of himself. Not the same when someone else does it.

Missing Rod’s voice.
This has been an excellent book so far. Only downside is the accent or lack of it. If Rod had been reading it, he would at least have known how to pronounce Jock Stein’s name.

Enjoyed it
I was a huge fan of Rod in the early days and although I cooled a bit in the eighties, I always held him in affection as I always thought that he was, at heart, an ordinary bloke with an extraordinary voice. His book backs that up. He could have glossed over or left out things ( and obviously he could well have omitted certain things for all I know) but I there are some low points that he is open about. There were quite a few laugh out loud moments. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and if I ever happen to meet Rod I would gladly buy him a drink. He and his Faces bandmates were my second favourite band, after the Beatles, and I love their music to this day and Rod's early albums are still regularly played by me.
