Summary

Rula Lenska's is an extraordinary life. Born in Britain to Polish aristocrats, refugees from the Nazis and then the Soviets, Rula found fame in the 1970s as Q in the TV series Rock Follies. Shortly afterwards she accidentally conquered America with the infamous VO5 hair advert, prompting Johnny Carson to ask, 'Who the hell is Rula Lenska?'

The world soon found out exactly who she was, as her career went on a roller-oaster ride through classic British television series such as Minder, To the Manor Born, The Detectives, Doctor Who, Casualty, Space: 1999 and, of course, Coronation Street. This came alongside a distinguished stage career, with stellar performances in The Vagina Monologues and Calendar Girls.

But her success has often been tempered with heartache. The fanfare surrounding her celebrity marriage to Dennis Waterman quickly faded amid accusations of alcoholism and spousal abuse. And then there was her surreal stint on Celebrity Big Brother, which she calls 'sixteen days of madness'.

Now older and wiser, and elevated to the status of national treasure, Rula Lenska is ready to share her unbelievable story in full. And while we've all watched her life from the outside, no one has heard or seen Rula like this - unabashed, honest, and thrilling.

I really enjoyed Rula’s life story

This is an interesting story I fully recommend it. The adventures were very informative. The drinking and self-indulgence’s some people take at the damage it does to those close to them is not acceptable certainly where violence takes place . Well done Rula x

Well told

like most, I probably associate Rula with her stint on BB. Her story lives up to the title. the first autobiography I've listened to on audible, the bar has been set very high. I found her engaging and delightful to listen to.

Interesting

I have liked Rula Lenska since seeing her in the 70's in Rock Follies. However I have never really known much about her life. What an interesting life she has led. She talks of her life, loves, family and work. I really enjoyed this book, especially her narration of it, which lent passion and personalisation to her own words. I would recommend this book and am sure you will come to the same conclusion I did, that Rula Lenska is a kind, interesting and funny lady, who has led a very full life so far.

A life well earned!

An out of the ordinary life, all the better for the telling. Gives insight and understanding of RL. Interesting and relevant a story of life in school, on stage and screen - crossing classes and making do with men who failed the test of time.

a relaxing listen

I didn't know much about Rula except the well publicised stories. Interesting, well read and honest without being bitchy.

Wow an amazing lady!

Really surprising, a really colourful and hopefully truthful account of her life. Sharing her pain and dark marriage to wonderful hippy days. I enjoyed it thank u Rula with the gorgeous hair!

What a colourful life indeed!

Rula's openness and fairness saturates this beautiful memoir. She narrates like she's just taking to an intimate party.

I loved every minute. Her raspy voice is brilliantly infectious. I listened to the whole volume quicker than I thought.

What a colourful life indeed.

Rula Lenska

What a beautifully written story, i thoroughly enjoyed listening to it and found how interesting Rula’s life was, also how heartbreaking. To think that Dennis treated her so badly most of the time. I’d definitely recommend this book. I love the stories about her mother and the war. So interesting.
