In this anthology of stories, reacquaint yourself with some of its more morally ambiguous denizens, including ‘Filthy’ Harald Kleindeinst and the scryer Rosanna Ophuls, Baron Johann von Mecklenberg, playwright and self-confessed genius Detlef Sierck and, of course, the vampire Genevieve.

The Curtain Closes...

Silver Nails is a perfect anthology of short stories / novellas which draw together various loose-ends and previous stories for Kim Newman's last book following his cast of The Vampire Genevieve. Each story felt uniquely Newman, they were all funny, dark, gothic and atmospheric. This series has been an excellent read, and I'm sure one day, when I'm a little older and Genevieve having not aged a day, I will return to these novels to find the characters exactly as I left and enjoyed them! I would highly recommend Silver Nails and this series overall. And so the curtain calls and the drama of Drachenfels draws to an end...

Fills in the gaps and ties up the loose ends.

I expect to enjoy Kim Newman's books and, although a series of novellas rather than a single novel, this did not disappoint. Silver Nails topped and tailed the Romance of Genevieve and Detler in a suitably dramatic manner. It also provides both a prequel and a thrilling sequel to Beasts in Velvet with the delightful Filthy Harold at his charming best. Antonio Beamish's performance is perfect and brings the characters to life, her voicing of Genevieve is at times almost unbearably sexy and leaves one in no surprise at Detler's attraction to her. I loved this.

grandma vampires and blood sucking taverns !

Apart from a very few warhammer references, this could easily be a standalone novel, so don't need to be a Warhammer fan to get into this book at all! Brilliantly discribed scenes and situations, really makes your imagination wonder! add a shot or two of some really oddly likeable personality's, with a splash of humour into mix, you have a brilliant bloody mary cocktail of a vampire novel. My first dip into a Kim Newman audio and I was not disappointed one bit! This audio book really nails vampire subculture. Really good audio book.

Nice final act of the series.

As always, Antonia Beamish does a wonderful job narrating this anthology. I would rate it as my joint favourite book of the series, along with the first novel. overall, the series has been entertaining so I recomend you start at the beginning and listen to them in order. That's Drakenfels, Genevieve Undead, Beasts in velvet and lastly this one, Silver Nails. Have fun.
