Summary

Many of us, without even realizing it, are dominated by fear. We might be aware of some of our fears - perhaps we are afraid of public speaking, of financial hardship, or of losing a loved one. Chögyam Trungpa shows us that most of us suffer from a far more pervasive fearfulness: fear of ourselves. We feel ashamed and embarrassed to look at our feelings or acknowledge our styles of thinking and acting; we don’t want to face the reality of our moment-to-moment experience. It is this fear that keeps us trapped in cycles of suffering, despair, and distress.

Chögyam Trungpa offers us a vision of moving beyond fear to discover the innate bravery, trust, and delight in life that lies at the core of our being. Drawing on the Shambhala Buddhist teachings, he explains how we can each become a spiritual warrior: a person who faces each moment of life with openness and fearlessness. "The ultimate definition of bravery is not being afraid of who you are," writes Chögyam Trungpa. In this audiobook, he offers the insights and strategies to claim victory over fear.

Interesting concepts but some hard to grasp

Interesting concepts but some were difficult to grasp as it contains lots of symbolism.
some understanding of Buddhism would help get more out of the book.

I found it hard to understand at times

I found it hard to understand everything but that could be more my general understanding of Buddhism being a novice, some very nice ideas in there, and has caught my imagination, I think I probably need a more simple guide to Buddhism.

Not for beginners at all

I’ve given my best shot to get into this having loved many other books on the subject but this one is too dense and complex for my understanding.
I have up near the end of the read.
This is for the initiated and the advanced in my opinion.

Voice is everything

If only the narrator chosen for myth of freedom had been chosen for this book, I would've continued to listen. This narrator is so annoying I can't go on. It doesn't fit with the theme.

Strange examples

No, this was not the book for me. Perhaps the author and myself has very different experiences for I couldn’t recognise any of the examples described.
The authors view of fellow humans is a bit sad, really. Since I could not agree with the examples the conclusions was also meaningless to me.

describes a long journey in a short narration.

this is a how to with very little religious crap.
explains how to meditate, and some of the issues.
this is a good introduction to meditation and Buddhism. and is very well narrated, which kept me engaged and not wanting to switch off.
occasionally though I did have to go back 30 seconds, but I think this is because of my lapse of attention. fearlessness within fear is a good idea but remaining unattached to fear while witnessing it, is a lifetimes work. thanks for the book being free I was able to listen to it and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I will be listening to it again for the nuggets of realisation and instructions, that I missed the first time around. Again thank you for the producer of this book for making free to audible, you have done a good service which I thank you for. All the best to those that read this and hopefully we meet along the path to realisation and enlightenment.
Remembering that we are here to learn to be ourselves more and not run away has helped me and I hope it helps you. Peace

Offputting voice...

It is obviously a great teaching but the voice of the speaker feels completely out of tune with the essence of the teaching. It sounds pretentious and bbc like...
