Story
The news has made headlines—"Korea and Japan join hands to exterminate the terrifying magic beasts on Jeju Island once and for all!” It’s a monumental moment for the people of the country…and it has absolutely nothing to do with Jinwoo. Instead, the newest S-rank hunter’s number-one priority is bringing his recently recovered mother back home where she belongs at last. When the situation on Jeju Island takes a devastating turn for the worse, though, will the country's top hunters be strong enough to save the day without him?

Callum had seen things all his life. There are monsters and beasts living among people, but he learned very early not to admit such things, not if he didn’t want people to think him crazy. It turns out that the supernatural is real, but at 30, Callum has no desire to be part of that secret. Not that he has a choice when it turns out he is a mage, albeit one that hasn’t cast any spells in all his life. There are requirements, duties, and education that the powers that be insist he be subject to. To hell with that.

Max isn’t a Knight, so he has no magical equipment or spells that could help him against monsters. What he does have, however, are the sword forms he learnt at the Blade Academy. I never believed in the whole “light at the end of the tunnel” folly where people, after having a near-death experience, would startle awake in a cold sweat exclaiming, “I saw the light!” But there I was, in this so-called “tunnel” facing a glaring light, when the last thing I remembered was sleeping in my room - the royal bed-chamber, as others called it. Had I died? If so, how? King Grey once benefited from unrivaled strength, wealth, and prestige in a world governed by martial ability but now finds himself reborn in a society dominated by magic.

Voice acting backfired
It is amazing how bad voice acting can be…it’s a cringe fiesta… whispered roars and shouts, Bear growls sound like puppies, doors sound like demons and all the “gulps” and “slurps” not counted…. Wow… the worst thing is, that he does a good read just the “voice acting” of sounds is face palming 🤦♂️….sad

Atm I am halfway through the book and at least three times phrases were repeated. Did they listen to the track after editing? The overlord audiobook is way better, not only because of the quality but also because of the voice acting. Don't know If I'll get the fourth volume.

Stingy author needlessly dragging the plot out
These books are amusing and I really enjoyed experiencing a South Korean perspective.
But the author does not end these novels satisfactorily, creating plot lines that simply get ignored in the subsequent novels.
Do not get me wrong, the novels are okay, but with the third installment they have become more frustrating than enjoyable.
I will be jumping off the train here. If the author puts together an anthology in a few years I may be back. But until then there are less frustrating authors worthy of my time and money.

PLEASE STOP SOUNDD EFFECTS
i have read the entirety of the manhwa! it is a comedy action adventure that deals with a lot of mature themes. it is NOT a comic book from the 80's. I was so excited to hear it narrated. but then he starts with the unnecessary sfx. some here and there are fine, but to have them riddle through the entire work is just so off putting. thank God I used my credits to buy this series. the sfx make it sound like he's at some local library reading for children. which is not acceptable for this story that is SO not mean't for 5 year olds. you are doing the story and yourself a disservice. please stop. or at least cut it back.

Warning.
I like this series. BUT the mouth sounds effects are bad in this one and are Loud do not listen with earbuds. the dude who is telling the story good when he’s not acting like a nine year old kid with a lightsaber.
As for the story it’s ok but it takes forever to get anywhere and spend to much time on other P.O.V. about things that hold no barring to the story besides Fluff. For example do we really need to hear the perspective of a manager to a character that we do not care about and never hear from again about an event where he got in the way of someone just walking down the side walk…….. tell me that is not padding.

A great reading continues
I had this pre-ordered when I finished Vol.2, and I've been sucked into this story. I found it via web novel format, and the Audiobook format definitely adds to the immersion. I really hope we can get an Anime adaptation for this series be ause it definitely deserves it. I hope it gets the Mushou Tensei treatment.
This book DOES expand on the lore, ties plot points in some areas, and even starts to bring an end to the arc our main character has worked on. The 1 star reviewer is incorrect on this being filler, because it is not. It expands on different areas, and starts expanding on the Main characters circumstances and background, plenty of things are explained, and more questions are given with the ending prepping for the next volume.
