Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

The fate of the Chiss Ascendancy hangs in the balance in the epic finale of the Star Wars: Thrawn Ascendancy trilogy from best-selling author Timothy Zahn.

For thousands of years The Chiss Ascendancy has been an island of calm, a centre of power and a beacon of integrity. Led by the Nine Ruling Families, their leadership stands as a bulwark of stability against the Chaos of the Unknown Regions.

But that stability has been eroded by a cunning foe that winnows away trust and loyalty in equal measure. Bonds of fidelity have given way to lines of division among the families. Despite the efforts of the Expansionary Defense Fleet, the Ascendancy slips closer and closer towards civil war.

The Chiss are no strangers to war. Their mythic status in the Chaos was earned through conflict and terrible deeds, some long buried. Until now. To ensure the Ascendancy's future, Thrawn will delve deep into its past, uncovering the dark secrets surrounding the ascension of the First Ruling Family. But the truth of a family's legacy is only as strong as the legend that supports it. Even if that legend turns out to be a lie.

To secure the salvation of the Ascendancy, is Thrawn willing to sacrifice everything? Including the only home he has ever known?

Another stronger entry to the Thrawn series

A good end to this trilogy. The Grisks were an excellent overarching villain for this series and the voice acting was excellent throughout.

As a huge fan of Thrawn in legends I don't agree with some who believe the character isn't as good in Disney Canon.

Excellent story and end to a great trilogy

What can I say, I found it faultless. I found myself understanding a view that I never thought possible. The way we come to understand the story of Thrawn is great. Without doubt my favourite SW character. The story, narrative and visualisation given is beyond most audio books I’ve listened to. All I wish is that “The Heir to the Empire “ is redone in the same way and my journey will be complete. Thank you Timothy Zahn. 😊

Favourite Star Wars Novel

Great imagery and characters following Thrawn's path before his time with the Empire. Looking forward to seeing where it all goes next...

This has made me want so much more Thrawn!

Fantastic ending. Really hope more Thrawn is written in the future. Well narrated and deep character development.

I love Thrawn!

I wish I had started by this trilogy and not discovered Thrawn when he met the Empire. I would have enjoyed continuing his adventure knowing all his background and I would have understood better the connections with the Ascendancy.
Anyway it was a delight learning about the origin story of the greatest and most likable villain of this universe.

Sensational

Thrawn is such an incredibly written character and is complimented by the other main characters that have equally good content poured into them.

I'm genuinely sad that I've now finished this trilogy. I hope there's much more thrawn as star wars goes further.

Much better than the second book

I’m still not sure that it makes the slog through the second book worth it but it definitely improved the overall feel of the trilogy. Very few if any boring parts, nice pacing and tension.
