Summary

Take a look around and see if you can find just one completely happy person, someone at peace with themselves, someone who is fearless and free from insecurity, depression, lack, and worry. You would be lucky if you found one in a hundred thousand. The irony is we were born happy; we lost touch with it. We were born surrounded by a divinity of peace, joy, and love; we lost sight of it. It's as if we've been hypnotized to see what is not there and not see what is there.

We were brainwashed by society into building our life on the unquestioned belief that without money, power, success, approval, romance, etc., we cannot be happy. It's a false belief that has us constantly striving, constantly focused on what we don't have, constantly at the mercy of things and people as we try desperately to make life conform to society's formula for happiness, only to discover it offers nothing more in the way of a happy life than temporary respites from the fear of failing.

Suppose there is a way of waking up from all that, where what is false and neurotic within you would drop with little or no effort on your part and your eyes would open to the reality of joy surrounding you. Here it is: Stop Fixing Yourself, the new book by Anthony De Mello that helps you rediscover the life you were meant to live.

Exactly the same content taken out of Awareness

Really disappointed paying for this

I loved his book Awareness and this book has literally taken out a few chapters from that book

It is word for word identical and with someone else reading it

I want my money back for this

A shorter book with exactly the same content

Go and buy Awareness instead as it is Anthony De Mello narrating

Pretty much said nothing

I just don't get it honestly! Repeating the same phrase over and over again doesn't make you understand it better.

Listened over and over

This message is something we could all benefit from hearing. I listened to it over and over and so did those who I recommended it to.

Just buy/listen to Awareness

Lots of repeat content and no new ideas, good for reinforcing the same ideas of “Awareness”

STOP! Don’t read. A fix-it book to stop fixing yourself???

I
I must have been crazy to fall for this book. Early on, I fell into depression realizing it was merely another book telling you how to fix yourself by fixing yourself. OMG. How bad can it get. I’m all for improving myself and have read numerous books that have given me insight and guidance. This book did the opposite for me and drug me down. Leading me to believe growing could be made easy. Life is a journey and very rewarding if you continue to grow and learn about yourself. Otherwise, what are we here for? Just a gimmick. I’d rather read a book that lifts me up instead of telling me all this stuff I need to do to get fixed when it’s about how to stop fixing myself. Really?

Great voice and story telling

Very simple yet profound. I enjoyed it. I listen to it completely once and one day it started mid book. Nice synchronicity. Cheers!

OK.

Good content. But I really enjoy De mello's humor and that was missing. Was not expecting actual meditations.

Excellent addition to your spiritual quest

Easy listening, thoughtfulness, and simplistic. Short, just right to add to your library, to come back and listen to. .

Thumbs down

Did not like this book at all. Very negative about life in general. Created anxiety for me without a feeling of relief. Hard to get through the first chapter. I believe in God and Spirit and all is well yet there explanation did not resonate with me. I thought the book would be more uplifting.
