Summary
Crumbling World
Family comes first - and he’ll do whatever it takes to protect his from the looming storm.
Even before becoming a husband and father, safety had been Shane McDonald’s priority for most of his 45 years. As a nuclear engineer, it’s his responsibility to keep the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant functioning at optimum levels to avoid what protesters fear most: a meltdown.
But when a coronal mass ejection from the sun wipes out power across the globe, stopping a nuclear chain reaction is no longer his primary concern.
Fallen World
Family is all that matters when friend becomes foe - and the stakes are survival.
The world has become a dangerous place for Shane McDonald and his family since the solar storm wiped out the power grid. Tensions flare when it grows clear the dire situation will be prolonged and most are ill-prepared.
Even the friendly small town of his prepper mother-in-law has drawn unwanted attention as word gets around about sharing their supply stores. And strangers begin to infiltrate the once peaceful Georgia community.
All Shane can think about is where his wife and son ended up in all the chaos as the hours stretch into days since they last communicated. Jodi is far too trusting a soul, and her desire to help the downtrodden is a dangerous commodity among desperate and increasingly hostile citizens.
New World
They’ll protect what’s theirs - or die trying.
The McDonald clan have learned their lessons the hard way these last months. Shane and Jodi finally realize they must keep their reunited family close and protect their own above all others to survive in this new post-apocalyptic reality. The repairs on the home are complete, solar panels installed, and the now operational pump means they won’t have to continue collecting rainwater for the foreseeable future.
But it’s no longer just outsiders wreaking havoc on the small Georgia town, as unprepared townsfolk learn of their hard-earned stores and threaten to take their prepper supplies by force.

Fantastic Story.
I received this book via a promo code and this is my voluntary review.
This complete audio-series follows the McDonald family by Grace Hamilton. (Individual ebook's: Crumbling World, Fallen World & New World.) When a coronal mass ejection from the sun wipes out power across the globe, Shane's first priority is to stop a nuclear meltdown... the second is to get his family together someplace safe before the inevitable chaos kicks off. Several members of the McDonald family are hitting the road to get to Prepping Grand-momma Beth's house. The solar flare acted like an EMP and meant Shane,Violet & guide dog Ruby heading from the Sequeoh Nuclear Plant to Macon & Jodi, her brother Mike & son Owen heading from Mike's final chemo treatment at the hospital to get home to her mother & daughter Kaylee required a lot of luck and creative thinking. Newer cars no longer work, leaving many stranded. Store's were in chaos because plastic was useless and cash was king. Despite the trials and surviving the initial dangers, the real threat soon becomes apparent as neighbours begin turning hostile and food became more scarce. Cut-off and surrounded it becomes a desperate situation as the others in the community were reluctant to adapt to the new world, glibly expecting that in a few days or weeks the government they had become so dependant on, would fix the problem. Determined to stave off an even bigger catastrophe than the solar flare, they try to temper down a tyrannical mayor. The McDonald family try to encourage people to do the work to help themselves, starting a community garden, canning workshops etc but old habits die hard and people are having a difficult time letting go of the old world. Other's with their eye on the quaint little town, however, are having no such issue embracing the new anarchy. I loved the character's, there's such life breathed into this story by Chris Monteiro's narration and the combination of the author's obvious love of the survivalist ethos creates such depth that it makes you want to fashion your own bug out bag and sign up for a bushcraft course.

Brilliant vision of a possible future
Wow, some book! A view of a possible future for all of us. A large Coronal Mass Ejection fries all all of the power grid and electronics in the US and other countries and throws the country into chaos. This book is a thrilling description of how quickly humanity can turn civilisation into anarchy. We follow the story of one family who has to fight for survival amidst gun wielding neighbours and rogue biker gangs. Thrills and excitment all the way. A really great listen, well narrated - and don't forget- it could happen tomorrow!
