Narration that transports the listener.

Highly recommend this book to anyone interested in a deep dive into Abraham Lincolns life. By contrasting and comparing Lincolns life to his contemporaries, we are given a far more colourful and multifaceted understanding of his motivations, characteristics, socioeconomic, and religious drivers. A very lengthy exposition, but definitely worth it. The narration by Suzanne Torren in a New England accent is a tour de force; it simply transports the reader. Fantastic!

Truly amazing and should be compulsory listening

I have been frustrated by the lack of an audio version of this book for a long time. I was so keen to hear it that I emailed the author and publisher and was extremely excited when it landed on Audible.
Having just finished it I can honestly say that it exceeded my wildest expectations. It is fascinating, inspiring, moving and sometimes even funny.
It is, essentially, a biography of Lincoln but it is so much more. Anyone who leads people or faces challenges should listen or read this. Obama cites it as one of his inspirations and I really understand why.
Listen, learn, laugh and cry. You will be glad you did.

Masterclass in government

Lincoln weaves a team together to resist the secessionist South. Showing a generosity of spirit, matched with ruthless determination to win.How he moves in stages to abolish slavery, matching and moulding USA public, is a masterclass in government. A long listen, but not a word is wasted

Very comprehensive and well researched lesson in American history.

It was really long! Not that it could be done any other way because of the nature of the subject matter.

A different but wonderful take on the greatness of President Lincoln. A long book but very worth the time.

Fantastic portrait of America’s most famous president.

I have long had this on my to-read/to listen list and I’m so glad I did. Thoroughly informative and endlessly engaging, it covers the colourful cast of characters that were Lincoln’s cabinet as well as any novel. For anyone interested in American history or history in general, this is a must read!

Inspiring leadership in difficult times

An excellent historical book about inspiring & successful political leadership in difficult times, a story about a leader with humility, empathy, self-knowledge, humor, great rhetorical skills and intelligence. An awesome character who controlled his emotions like no other and above all, he was an inspiring moral human being who served his country well.

Outstanding

I’m English and haven’t read anything about the American presidents except a bit around the war time leaders, and so I was apprehensive to start such an epic. But I am so glad I did. Wonderfully interesting stories brought to life by fantastic writing and narration.

Would highly recommend.
