About this listen
Nicky Gumbel, pioneer of Alpha - a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith - and vicar of Holy Trinity Brompton in Kensington, London, aids listeners following the Bible in a one-year programme to understand the scriptures better.
Drawing out a theme for each day from the designated Bible readings, Gumbel's exegetical writings on Proverbs, Psalms and New and Old Testament excerpts are packed with insight, wisdom and application.
These accompanying thoughts will enhance the study of anyone listening to The Bible in One Year each day.

Easy to listen to and encouraging
Made it through the entire book, which shows Nicky is easy to listen to throughout the year. At times made me contemplate and seek more details in the Bible.

Excellence comes out from the Alpha Evangelicals.
I'm not a great fan of the dogmaticism of the Alpha Course but this is an outstanding daily guide to The Bible. It is important, I remind my flawed self, of the old maxim "Contempt Prior to Investigation!". Thank you Mr Gumbel. Yet do keep Alphas Courses open minded. If your mind isn't open, it's shut! I was Christened at HTB in 1959, long before Alpha. & one strong feeling is please do bring back music not sentimental crowd pulling gushing pop. What about a bit of both? Bach and ? Please come to St Luke's Church Sydney Street SW3 and our choir might make you think again! The heavens open...and I shall then come to you, with my shadow resolved I hope! A congregation member at St.Lukes recommended this v highly. I too strongly recommend this measured book. beautifully assembled and read. A touch 'lovey'...but as Rowan Williams said of it all "It has its dark side and flaws and ego's! But as my wife Lectures on the course, I had better be quiet! Yet it does more good than harm"! I paraphrased the great Archbishop of Canterbury in our conversation just after his departure from Lambeth. But jibes and jokes aside, congratulations on this publication. May it reach many souls in need of such rich sustenance. John Stewart. London. UK.

Good but scripture passages are not on the audio.
I downloaded this after having an eye operation as I could not read for a while but the absence of scripture passages made it unhelpful.

Very good, but not really what it says it is.
This is very good, though not really what I thought it would be. The audio is very well read, clear and a pleasure to listen to. Once down loaded it is in six parts so for example Part 5 runs from September to the beginning of November, then each day is listed, so very easy to find the reading for todays date.
I have to admit I was expecting more of a Bible commentary to listen to as I read and studied the Bible. What Mr Gumbel does here is presents a kind of 'thought for the day' based around a bible reading from the New and Old Testaments and Psalms. So throughout the year the Bible has been referenced each day. This leaves me still looking for a Bible commentary / study. However, having said that this recording is a pleasure to listen to and I am very pleased I ordered it. I listen to each days reading every day - each one is about ten minutes long.
