A brilliant read from start to finish.
At its most basic level this book is a love story with many twists and turns which keep you wanting to read more. The setting for the book essentially around the first world war is educational and I opening. Who knows how many families will have gone through many of the twists and turns that this author describes in this book. An absolutely marvellous read and performed so well. One very tiny criticism of the reading is that sometimes the names of the characters have been muddled but it doesn't spoil the overall book and it is only in a couple of places.

Loved this !
Really enjoyed this family saga. Heard similar tales before but I really enjoy stories set in this period of the last century. The hours of listening just float away. Wonderfully written. Really enjoyed this narrator, in parts it felt like I was listening to play.

I Did enjoy this book
What a good account of that period,
I loved Emily's spirit, good heart & loyalty.
A good, sometimes sad story, narrative good too, Uncle Derek's voice was so creepy.

Another successful Manor House type novel
A well written book sympathetically narrated by Penelope Freeman. Once I started listening I couldn’t stop picking it up!
