A brilliant read from start to finish.

At its most basic level this book is a love story with many twists and turns which keep you wanting to read more. The setting for the book essentially around the first world war is educational and I opening. Who knows how many families will have gone through many of the twists and turns that this author describes in this book. An absolutely marvellous read and performed so well. One very tiny criticism of the reading is that sometimes the names of the characters have been muddled but it doesn't spoil the overall book and it is only in a couple of places.

Got bored

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The story was o k, but was dragged out by repeating things time and time again. It was like ground hog day, how many times can someone hold their head high and not let the tears fall, or 'know she cannot have him' If I had the patience (which I don't) I would listen again and count

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

There wasn't one - I kept hoping something different would rear it's head, but it didn't

What does Penelope Freeman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Hers was a voice I could listen to, the highlight of my purchase

If this book were a film would you go see it?

No

Lovely storyline

I loved the book and storyline, the voice of the reader was amusing at times especially when reading the male parts.

Another successful Manor House type novel

A well written book sympathetically narrated by Penelope Freeman. Once I started listening I couldn’t stop picking it up!
