Summary

Olivia Carver's life in Lake Cabot, New York, is simple. That's how she likes it, even if she can't stop the town she loves from being overrun by wealthy tourists each summer. When she's not working at her family's paddleboard shop or spending time with her lovable but infuriating brothers, she puts her energy into writing professionally, a dream that has yet to materialize.

Valerie Maycomb used to summer in Lake Cabot with her family when she was younger, until school and planning for her future became the driving forces in her existence. For the first time in years, following her college graduation, she's spending a few months in the small, lakeside town she loved as a child. All she wants is a little time to decompress before law school in the fall and maybe even strike up the courage to talk to a woman.

A chance meeting at the lake opens up the possibility of a summer romance, with the explicit understanding that it can't become something more. Olivia's not built for falling in love, and Val needs to keep her eye on the prize of a successful career. But neither of them can deny the attraction, and summer quickly takes on a life of its own.

Contains mature themes.

totally enjoyable

I have really liked this book. finally characters that are not super divas or famous or extremely ritch. love happens to common mortals too like us and it's good to feel the connection.

Plans are never too perfect

This story offers the reminder that plans are never too important to remain unchanged when something better comes along.

A moving but ultimately sweet romance

I found this charming romance about two young women finding each other despite their very different situations moving and at times it brought me to tears. It is nicely written Monica McCallan - I will look out for more by her.
Lori Prince's narration style, which is best suited to romcoms, is mostly spot on. She enhances the story and brings the characters to life, although on the odd occasion her tone is slightly too flippant.

Sweet story

Not a lot of angst in this tale, in spite of a character’s death. A simple tale of love and growth set in a small town.

flawless

heartwarming coming out holiday romance bringing souls together, one happy go lucky finally opening to love, and one trying to please family expectations until love and the realisation of what she wants from life frees her to be her real self.
excellent narration as always from Lori Prince, but it's the writing of family lives, friendship, and community that excels.

Wonderful coming of age story about first love

Loved it! Monica is a brilliant writer and I haven't read a book of hers yet that disappoints. This story is a coming of age story about first love and facing up to life's challenges.
