Summary
What is Texas slang? Texas slang is a unique dialect that has been developed over time by the people who live in Texas. So, where does Texas slang come from? The origins of Texas slang can be traced back to the early 1800s when settlers from Texas began moving to other parts of the United States. These settlers brought their unique dialect with them, and it gradually began to spread.
Before divin’ in, here are six steps to get ya’ll started:
- When applyin’ Texan, think of words that end in G.
- Then, don’t pronounce that G.
- Texans love it when you sprinkle the term “fixin’ to” into dialogue.
- Don’t say “you guys”. Refer to 'em as “ya’ll”.
- Don’t ever call a Coca-Cola a "pop"; they’ve got no idea what ya’ll talkin’ about.
- Congratulations, ya’ll now versed in Texan speak.
If you're visiting Texas, be sure to brush up on your Texas slang! It will help you to communicate with the locals and get a better understanding of their culture. Happy travels!

Delightful exploration of Texan culture!
This is an entertaining and enlightening book that offers a delightful exploration of Texan language and culture. As someone fascinated by different ways of speaking, this book was a gem.
I vividly remember a trip to Texas where I encountered some of the unique phrases highlighted in this book. Hearing locals use terms like "fixin' to" and "y'all" intrigued me, and this book has helped me understand their meanings better. The author's approach to explaining the origins of Texan speak in the introductory chapter was both educational and engaging. It felt like a journey back in time, understanding how these expressions evolved.
The narrator's engaging voice infuses the book with energy, making the Texan slang and sayings truly captivating.

Funny is an under statement!
I seriously laughed out loud driving to work listening to this. There is so much good content in here you would be silly not to give this book a listen. I did not know Texans had SO much slang, it really was hilarious to listen to and I cannot recommend it enough. My only complaint is that it's only half an hour long!

Busted my britches, laughing so hard
Texans don't have exclusivity on wordspeak! As someone raised in the Deep South, we have a lot of sayings that may sound like we are speaking a foreign language to the Yankees! I live in England and everyone always comments on my accent. What accent, I ask? That is like the pot calling the kettle black! if you want to hear funny accents, y'all come here. Well, I declare that what these people say, confuses even other English people! I reckon that some even try to effect a "posh" accent, which to us is them trying to act highfalutin. This book is so good that it makes me want to slap my mama! It's as funny as all get out and if you don't get it now, you may be waiting until the cows come home, to, enjoy Texas speak
