About this listen

The latest unforgettable timeslip novel from the USA Today bestselling author of The Secret of the Chateau.

Will love lead her to a devastating choice?

1942. Three years into the war, Pam turns down her hard-won place at Oxford University to become a codebreaker at Bletchley Park. There, she meets two young men, both keen to impress her, and Pam finds herself falling hard for one of them. But as the country’s future becomes more uncertain by the day, a tragic turn of events casts doubt on her choice – and Pam’s loyalty is pushed to its limits…

Present day. Julia is struggling to juggle her career, two children and a husband increasingly jealous of her success. Her brother presents her with the perfect distraction: forgotten photos of their grandmother as a young woman at Bletchley Park. Why did her grandmother never speak of her time there? The search for answers leads Julia to an incredible tale of betrayal and bravery – one that inspires some huge decisions of her own…

Gripping historical fiction perfect for fans of The Girl from Berlin, The Rose Code and When We Were Brave.

A lovely easy listen.

An introduction say let sten, but simultaneously, very informative about life during the war for the staff at Bletchley Park.

Predictable

Totally predictable ‘magazine romance’ type of story, just very bland. Audiobook ‘easy listening’ Good narration, though

Enjoyable reading!

Good book for easy listening. I felt one of the 'heroines' was a bit naive but it was not too distracting!

Truly wonderful piece of work

This was a wonderful story written by Kathleen McGurl. The plot was cleverly laid out taking you between the past and the present; touching the lives of the author,in her current situation, as she researched her grandmother’s life during the Second World War. Both eras delved into issues of trust and how the two, strong ladies worked, played and resolved relationship issues. All the time , in the background were beautiful characters that each could have a story on their own. Jessica Whitaker read the story, beautifully while keeping you waiting for the next chapter! I’m sure this story will be enjoyed by everyone who reads( or listens) to it. Highly recommended.

A great audio book, recommended

I have really enjoyed hearing this audio book. Usually I would steer clear or ordinary books that go back and forth in time, but as an audio book for me it worked really well.
The two characters were interesting although Julia I felt a bit naive at times in relation to her business and husband, however it was tackled well on both counts.
Im a great fan of anything Bletchley related, the people who worked there during the war did such an amazing job and this book really brought that home.
I would highly recommend it.

Great read

Really enjoyed this book… combining life/love and betrayal at Bletchley Park during the war years and life nowadays for Julia trying to cope with betrayal from people she loved.
Kathleen McGurl brings her characters to life.
