Summary

Some doors are locked for a reason....

While 11-year-old Nora Davis was up in her bedroom doing homework, she had no idea her father was killing women in the basement.

Until the day the police arrived at their front door.

Decades later, Nora's father is spending his life behind bars, and Nora is a successful surgeon with a quiet, solitary existence. Nobody knows her father was a notorious serial killer. And she intends to keep it that way.

Then Nora discovers one of her young female patients has been murdered. In the same unique and horrific manner that her father used to kill his victims.

Somebody knows who Nora is. Somebody wants her to take the fall for this unthinkable crime. But she's not a killer like her father. The police can't pin anything on her.

As long as they don't look in her basement.

Dreadful Narration

Downloaded the kindle book from kindle unlimited & purchased the audio companion. @ a reduced price. Question: are audio narrations verified as being suitable for public listening? If not, after listening to a chapter of this book, they should be. The narration is so bad it can be described as ‘an assault on the hearing’. Unable to return the audio book for a refund - so Amazon have my money & I have nothing to show for it because I have to delete it. Will also delete the Kindle book because any author who would allow that narration of their work to be sold for money is not worth reading.

The narration ruins what I assume would be another McFadden gem!

I love this author so much but I couldn’t get through this book because of the narrator! I made it through 7 chapters but just couldn’t take anymore!
I have given the story 5 stars because it is Freda McFadden and she always delivers so I assume it would have been another smash!
However, I wish I had read the reviews first and not blindly downloaded another of her books because the narrator’s voice is like nails on a chalkboard!
She also pauses in weird places and annunciates in a very strange way! It is like when an actor over acts! She over narrates!
Such a shame- but I will just have to buy the book and read it myself!

EDITED TO ADD- I finished the book. It is not her best story unfortunately- far too predictable. I have edited my score to reflect.

Long drawn out and flimsy

I loved the "Housemaid", however this wasn't great. The narration was grating on the ears.

A good listen

Story was good, I only guessed the outcome towards the end, some good details in there which I really enjoyed.
Narration was super annoying though, almost stopped listening but I do love Freida McFadden books so I stuck with it.

Ok story, bit scattered at times and not exactly tantalising.Really really annoying narrator. It was painful to listen to her high pitched alert narration of the main character.Does spoil the whole experience imo!

great story, awful narrator

another fantastic story from Freida McFadden but the narrator made this one very difficult to listen to. Not a pleasant voice to listen to, with strange inflections and weird pauses. almost had to stop listening but glad I didn't as the story made it worthwhile.

Disappointing.

I usually love freidas books. This was awful, unrealistic story, the narrator was terrible, shouted all the way through.

Terrible Narrator

I gave up after about an hour. Really could not stand the dreadful narration. So could not properly rate the story.
