Summary

The plan is so complex, the target so well protected that the three snipers have to rehearse the killing in the seclusion of the Arizona desert. Cole Howard of the FBI knows he has only days to prevent the audacious assassination. But he doesn’t know who the target is or where the crack marksmen will strike.

Former SAS sergeant Mike Cramer is also on the trail, infiltrating the Irish community in New York as he tracks down Mary Hennessy, the ruthless killer who tore his life apart. Unless Cramer and Howard agree to cooperate, the world will witness the most spectacular terrorist coup of all time.…

Great story, shame about the performance.

Great story, excellent plot and rattles along at a good speed, shame about the godawful attempts at accents from the reader.

The long shot

Good story and I liked the characters however the narrater's impression of an irish accent had little resemblance to the real thing.

Excellent Book

The book and story were excellent, my only criticism is the accents used by the narrator.

Edge of the seat

Great storyline from the outset, 2 stores running alongside each other coming together in brilliant fashion towards the end, still a few loose ends so look forward to exploring Stephen Leather titles

Predictable and too long.

Easy to listen to but poor attention to detail. Not the worst book I've downloaded but one of them. First and last by this author.

Difficult but possible!

This is the first Stephen Leather book that I have read and I am so glad that I decided to try out a new author! It is full of action with believable characters, or maybe I'm just too ingenuous. The character I liked most was former SAS sergeant Mike Cramer . He had a fair share of hang-ups and it was possible to believe that it could all end in tragedy. I liked the contrasts in the book, especially that between Mike and his old adversary Mary Hennessy. Minor characters too were well executed and helped to keep the interest high. Obviously a well researched book. I was kept guessing how it could all fix out in the end. Not exactly what I expected in parts which made it even better for me. The narration by Martyn Read was excellent and certainly added to the general enjoyment. A truly gripping book that I found hard to put down. I shall certainly be listening to more Stephen Leather and be on the lookout for Martyn Read.

Oh dear the accents - still a good book

What made the experience of listening to The Long Shot the most enjoyable?

The storyline. It is a really good book

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Long Shot?

No one thing stands out

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Accents. The best way to enjoy this book is simply to imagine many of the characters are aliens. eg the Irish come from Mars, the Americans from Neptune and the Italian New York FBI agent from Pluto. That way you stop thinking about the atrocious accents and can enjoy the story. The narrator has a pleasant voice but his accents and pronunciation of some words leave a lot to be desired.

Good Leather book

Much like his other work this book offers the reader/listener a rich story. The charters are believable and the plot keeps you gripped. If you like the Spider Shepard series this book is right up your street
