Thorne returns in style
This is the way,Billingham gives us one of the best yet,it doesn’t disappoint.
Recently tried his latest stand alone thriller but, despite a great performance by Maxine Peake,I just couldn’t get to grips and it remains unfinished.
You can’t beat Thorne along with many other familiar characters and the return of his nemesis gives us a gripping narrative.
For the second time in a couple of weeks I did not see the ending coming and I look forward to seeing where we go from here with another dark episode to add to various back stories .Let’s hope for many more in this riveting series.

The performance
The story is terrific. So many twists and turns. So many things I just could not guess. Quite unusual and I like the way in which the story was about more than just the detective. I can see this guy developing more and more...

Great listen
I loved this and thought I’d worked something out, but then came the twist that was really well hidden. I liked Mark Billingham narrating. It used to bother me but I’m used to it now!

The best yet?
I really enjoyed this book. The narration is excellent, despite the negative comments of some listeners. I really hope this is not the end of Tom Thorne, I feel there’s plenty of life left in this series yet. Loved the ending.

Welcome back Tom & Mark
It has been many years since I was read a Tom Thorne novel so it was a pleasure to reunite and particularly fun to hear Mark narrate. I reconnected with Tom, Tanner and Hendricks. I hadn’t heard of Nicklin before but that didn’t turn out to be an issue. Couple of clever twists made this an enjoyable experience. Which one next I wonder?!

Loved listening instead of reading.
Up till now I have read Mark Billingham detective Thorne books and enjoyed them. Really enjoyed the narration . Loved the London accent took me back to my youth and hearing my dad and uncles. An excellent story based in a part of London I grew up in , what could be better. Well worth listening to.

One of Mark’s best
Gripping twisting and satisfying, Stuart v Thorne at its best. Shock and awe in all directions. Worthy of the Bengal Lancer!
