1st March Murder David, Cardiff

1st April Murder Mary, Cheltenham

Is this some kind of sick joke? But…it’s the end of January now. And a woman named Lisa was murdered in Oxford on 1st January.

Does that mean there really is a killer out there, planning to commit a new murder on the first of each month? And is the Mary due to be killed on 1st April her?

The clock is ticking for Mary to uncover the truth, before she becomes the next victim on the killer’s list....

Brilliant story but bizarre narration

I loved this story. The narrator was fine in some ways but her accents were truly appalling. A police woman from Newcastle who’s described as having a soft Geordie accent given a Merseyside accent and many many more. Who on earth allows that to be published?? It’s as if she’s never come into contact with anyone from the UK. Someone needs to give her a map. She does a series of vague northern accents regardless of the description in the story because she clearly has no idea where the various characters are from. I have no idea how accurate her US accent is or whether that’s equally awful. Also she speaks so quickly. The pace is so fast that I had to rewind often and eventually set it at half pace. The alternative was to process about a quarter of the narration which isn’t acceptable for a crime drama. Another great book let down by sloppy narration. Its such a shame. It happens too often. Why aren’t there producers watching out for this??

Accents!!!

This was a great story but like many audiobooks I listen to, it was marred by the female narrator's need to try & do different UK accents. Why try? It's not essential to the story and can be really distracting. In this case with the male narrator getting the accents more or less correct (Geordie, Birmingham, Welsh) but the female doing a Liverpudlian accent for almost everyone I got confused as to who was who. Either get them right or don't bother!!!

Brilliant story

Format: audiobook
Narrator: Grace Andrews and Leighton Pugh

I devoured this book in one sitting, an interesting plot that keeps you guessing and a few twists that slowly reveal themselves definitely add to the whole enjoyment of this story.

The narrator’s did a great job portraying the tension, frustration and fear. Well done all.

Really?

I appreciate with fiction you have to suspend disbelief but this takes the biscuit. Out and out tosh from start to finish. Only saving grace is that it was purchased as part of a 2 for 1 deal so I didn’t waste a whole credit!

Appalling ending, not good overall.

I don't like to give up on a book, once I've started listening, and l listen to the end in the hope (false in this case) that things can only get better (as they say). Well, you'll die in despair in this instance. The narration is whiney and not at all convincing and the story is literally unbelievable, and not in a good way. If the police are as dumb and ineffectual as they appear in this novel, God help us all! The reveal of the killer, indeed the whole "reveal" scenario is such that it is laugh out loud ludicrous, but it is the final revelation that is truly appalling and gratuitous. I can only assume that the author believed it would be a morally shocking moment for the reader, and it might well be, but that was it's ONLY purpose because it served no purpose in the telling of the story other than to end it on an abominable and unnecessary "twist". I'm being kind in the scores given as l certainly will not be purchasing any more of this author's output.

Had so much more potential spoiler alert in review

I had really high expectations for this story. The main character was really annoying. The female reader sounded as if she should be reading an erotic novel, she was so breathy throughout. The plot was ridiculous with the main detective being the killer just because she had a tough childhood. Book made lots of justifications about it being ok murdering people if you had a difficult time as a child. Very disappointed.

Good characters.

A very intriguing story. I enjoyed all the twists and turns between the characters, especially the main one.

Really good.

I loved this, twisty and engaging. So many of these domestic thrillers 'tie up' so quickly at the end that feel a little cheated, but this tied up nicely over a decent amount of time.
I would listen again
