Summary

The reason human beings are the dominant animal on this planet has nothing to do with their strength or ability to fight. An elephant is stronger, a cheetah is faster, but mankind's ability to communicate is second to none and the true secret to our success.

We all have this 'god-like' ability to communicate precisely what we want, but some are more equal than others. It is no coincidence that the world's top salesmen, politicians, and hypnotists all use very similar language. All these master communicators know the path of least resistance is to talk directly to a person's sub-conscious, bypassing the conscious or thinking mind.

People who have an advanced knowledge of all our subtle levels of communications have a vast advantage in all areas of life. In The New Science of Persuasion and Influence, Craig Beck reveals the secrets used by leading persuasion professionals to get the specific outcome they want with everyone they meet. He will show you how these techniques have been used to influence you in the past and how you can build subliminal commands into your everyday communication to get amazing results.

You will learn how to control any conversation; how to deal with all types of characters, from shy and quiet individuals to aggressive and dominant people; how to become super confident as a speaker and influencer; what a person’s body language is telling us; and much more.

About the author: Craig Beck is a professional broadcaster, author, and media consultant. Craig became a qualified master of hypnotherapy in 1995.

From Customer Reviews:

"I have been in sales for 10 years. I was amazed how little of this I knew. It's actually frightening to think other people I deal with on a daily basis might know this stuff." (Amazon Customer) "An interesting take and reinvention of some well-established techniques I have used for a while. It's amazing to see how the communication tools of politicians, salesmen and stage hypnotists are all quite similar. The book is delivered and read by the author and his English accent is easy to listen to. Worth listening to even just to find out what techniques are being used on you every day." (Brian Thompson, Durham, UK) "One of the best courses I have ever bought, Craig explains skill after skill and how to implement them into everyday life. Already seen some pretty dramatic results with new clients." (Tony Bracknell, Hull, UK)

Nice Summary

This feels like Craig finding his feet. At times it is a bit cheesy and forced and yet at other times Craig's brilliance shines through. The things that work well are 1/ nice summaries at the end of each section 2/ great overview of basic NLP principals 3/ great reading voice. The things that don't work so well are 1/ sounds a bit amateur and at times forced 2/ a bit too summarised 3/ copies a lot of the other ideas. If you need a 'quick fix' or are new to this subject then very highly recommended. If not, then there are many better audiobooks out there on this subject.

Going to buy the book

It is a lot of powerful information packed in a 3hrs. book.
Not only you get what you want (with a lot of practice) but to understand when you are being taken advantage off, as well. It made me think a good deal about the world politics, people around me and my communication with my child. I am planning on to buy the book to keep it as a communication manual.

And highly recommended as the narrator is also the writer himself.

Enjoyable book with actionable steps

I really enjoyed the insights and concepts of this book. Narration is also pleasant. I've listened to a few books by Craig Beck while cycling to work and find myself stopping frequently to take notes. Great for learning, but slows down my commute. :)

Actionable steps which you can take are presented, which is useful, rather than just theory or stories with no clear steps that you can take yourself, which is common in other books.

Highly recommended.

Can't believe this isn't a Parody

This is more Alan Partridge than Alan Partridge. The accent, analogies and even the radio broadcasting references.

Its actually uncanny.

Funny thing is, some of the information is actually quite helpful, despite the absolutely hilarious delivery.

a nice bitesize book, but maybe Craig should get someone else read his books.

Good basic overview of persuasion

This book contains material that was around twenty years ago, so it provides a good overview of persuasion. The narrator performs it well, which makes sense when you find out that he is a radio presenter. There is a pinch of unironic Alan Partridge in there too. I was half expecting some of the anecdotes to end with "Needless to say, I had the last laugh".

Advice for the author: Please re-release this book with Steve Coogan as the narrator

Must read

I love this book 🙏
I worried it was too short... but it’s just perfect.. it is to the point! I will turn to this book again and again... listened to it on audiable- but I will for sure have to get a physical copy as well... I will need to highlight and look up... brilliant!

Enjoyed it

The best part- a good salesman sells only stuff that he would have no hesitation on selling to his best friends and family.

Not completely original, but useful all the same.

If you've read extensively on persuasion and NLP, you'll recognise his influences as he borrows heavily from the likes of Cialdini and Bandler. Even so, I found it a decent listen that served as a reminder if nothing else. Also narrates very well.

Devised for salesmen

Some reasonably interesting insights here but little I haven't heard before on sales training courses down the years. The writer has obviously lifted a lot of the content from other publications, rather than from his personal experiences: if I hear one more time that we tend to be either "visual, auditary or kinetic" I think I will scream....
