Summary

The enthralling new psychological thriller from the best-selling author of The Girl Before.

When Abbie Cullen met Tim Scott, she was a struggling artist and he was the brilliant British cofounder of one of Silicon Valley's most successful start-ups.

Within six months, they were married. But when she promised him in her wedding vows that she would love him forever, she had no idea just how literally he would take it....

OMG THIS IS THE BEST THRILLER I HAVE READ ... EVER

I adored "The Girl Before" could not wait for "Believe Me" which was a huge disappointment thought had an intriguing premise but became just too bonkers towards the latter quarter - but based on the strength of the first book I went ahead and pre-ordered "The Perfect Wife". The release date was put back and I wondered what was taking so long ...

Now I know ... THIS BOOK IS BLINKING BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!

It is, for me, the best thriller I have read maybe ever. Certainly recently. It is set in the near future so there is a bit of sci-fi in it but as much as things we know are inevitable developments, which makes it just super fascinating. It is the world we know but with tech advancements unfolding with the book which is very thought provoking.
Along with this future tech, the moral and ethical questions are also explored and these are real and valid questions which we will surely have to address only too soon.

But this is also and perhaps primarily a love story but also a twisting, turning intriguing, enthralling psychological thriller which really packs in all the cunning reality shifts and plot developments of 10 of your average mysteries.

I loved it from the very beginning which features a GIANT mind blowing and very through provoking twist.
Initially I was put off by the American voice over and I bristled a bit as the previous books had been very well narrated with UK actors but a few minutes in I realised why as the book is set in the US amid the big tech companies so it did make huge sense and the narrators were excellent.

I devoured this book with an enthusiasm unlike any other I have read for years. It just had everything for me - romance, intrigue, thought provoking real issues, an insight into autism, an insight into tech and insight into a lifestyle so different from mine and just when you settled into a level, the whole thing was shaken up with another incredible reveal and turned on its head.

AMAZING!

I loved all the changing relationship dynamics, the unique main character, the luxurious setting around San Francisco with beach houses and surfing and multi million dollar tech company founders including match makers to the rich and famous and the mind boggling ethics of advances which will be coming our way in the near future.

In fact if someone had gone about writing me the perfect thriller this is it with all the elements that intrigue me and written with so much skill, style and depth with as many plot twists and thought provoking issues as a bookshelves of thrillers. Now I know why this book took so long to write as it just is so seamlessly well crafted twist after twist after perspective change after huge reveal after gear change, reality shift and another mind expanding question posed.

Not gritty, gory, dark or troubling, just an amazing journey and adventure with so much depth and a spiralling mystery which just keeps you racing along intrigued and enthralled with a glossy stylish setting, twists, turns, shock reveals, captivating storyline, mysterious and fascinating characters, gripping thrills, spills, amazing questions about the near future and intriguing relationship dynamics.

I suppose in ways it could be compared to Gone Girl but with about twenty different levels going on at the same time and told from several perspectives which gave the whole story so much of a deeper and comprehensive view. But if you loved Gone Girl then this would probably be a real winner for you and I think it would make a fabulous film also as it would be visually spectacular as well as just such an intricately woven web of intrigue, mystery and adventure.

It's about marriage, art, future tech, mystery, murder, intrigue, human nature, romance, jealousy, sibling rivalry, motherhood, tough parenting decision, our brains, our frailty and real questions we will have to work out soon. In other words the perfect blend of romance, psychological thriller, future reality told from a unique point of view in the near future with loads of glamour and style set in the tech and art worlds of the west coast.

I felt like I was eating a giant box of chocolates with all my favourite flavours - I could not get enough - what a treat!

Go with it

I wasn’t sure after the first chapter if I was going to enjoy this but I’m glad I kept with it. A different take on a psychological thriller but brilliantly written. Kept me wanting more. Highly recommend this audio book

Not My Favourite

I found this book more than a bit 'Meh' but looking at the other glowing reviews I seem to be the only one :)

I thought it was far fetched, predictable and at times a bit cliche and for me, the narration was occasionally irritating. Tim (Abbie's husband) couldn't quite make up his mind where in England his accent belonged and sometimes slipped into full on Irish, which was entertaining, but didn't really fit with the story. Abbie, on the other hand, sometimes sounded like she was from Australia (maybe it was a robot thing?)

Oh well, you can't love them all and I'm sure J P Delaney won't be losing any sleep over my review.

10 hours of my life I’ll never get back

I can’t even begin to tell you how dull and pointless this book was which is so disappointing as I have loved his previous work.
Narration was ok, but the English accent was painful to listen to.
I waited hours for this to get going and have a point but sadly, it didn’t. Then the ending...er....what???
Don’t bother with this book, I gave it a chance and ended up returning it.
However, the others....loved them and they are well worth a listen.
Sorry JP Delaney, I hate to write a negative review but I expected so much better from you.

The perfect wife

This is not for me.....the story is very fractured......and quite perdictable.....not as good as other JP Delaney books. ...

Very disappointing

After listening to The Girl Before I was looking for a good book by the same author as I had thoroughly enjoyed The Girl Before, however after reading reviews of the second book I decided to go with the the third....after several chapters I decided I really didn't like the story. I plowed on though and listened until the end and I really wish I hadn't wasted the time. The story was very far fetched, badly written and the ending was even more disappointing than the rest. I wouldn't bother with this one if I were you.

Fantastic idea that peters out into cliches

A really interesting story idea that flounders into old stereotypes about men and women and their inherent goodness or otherwise. Still an enjoyable read though, but could have been edited into something much better.
