Summary
For the first time in unabridged audio download comes Rosamunde Pilcher's phenomenal, heartwarming best seller, read by Hayley Atwell.
Artist's daughter Penelope Keeling can look back on a full and varied life: a Bohemian childhood in London and Cornwall, an unhappy wartime marriage, and the one man she truly loved. She has brought up three children - and learned to accept them as they are.
Yet she is far too energetic and independent to settle sweetly into pensioned-off old age. And when she discovers that her most treasured possession, her father's painting, The Shell Seekers, is now worth a small fortune, it is Penelope who must make the decisions that will determine whether her family can continue to survive as a family or be split apart.

Lovely story but niggled by lack of editing of narration
I loved Hayley’s voice and tone but spoiled as littered with mispronunciations which should have been edited. As Dahlias were mentioned several times; “Darlia” became very irritating and had me shouting at her. It shouldn’t matter but when you are immersed in such a lovely well written tale it is like being suddenly plucked out.

What a Magnificent Book
I read Rosamund Pilcher years ago but not The Shell Seekers. I absolutely adored this book. The narrator is perfect which is so important! The story so original and interesting. I loved all the characters!
I am so disappointed to see she hasn’t narrated Rosamund’s other books as the voices which have are not ones I could easily listen to.

One of my favourite books, but…
When I saw the Shell Seekers on audio, I was delighted - it is one of my favourite books, which I bought many years ago, when it was voted a top read and had received many accolades. Because of this I thought it would command a really good Narrator, but I was so disappointed - who was the person narrating? I’ve heard so many audio books and the ability of the Narrators to switch accents with ease, was not the case here. How can she read a conversation between a 60 yr, a 30 yr old and an 18 yr old woman that all sounded like the same person? The guy from Scotland didn’t have any hint of Scottish and often sounded American. I wondered if the Narrator was American - you could hear an American accent coming through and she did not know how to pronounce so many words, eg hearth, dahlia, Michaelmas daisy, Maurice Chevalier, etc.
Added to which the sound quality was either ‘off’ or the Narrator would lower her voice so much, I needed to alter the volume.
As I say, very disappointed - love, love the story but oh dear, it was spoilt for me.

Lovely, Warm Novel
Unlike one or two critics of the narrator, I found by slowing the speed slightly it was most pleasurable. Very therapeutic and gives the wish to read more of the author's work.

A delightful treasure
This book was a delight, although a long listen I found myself captivated by the well written characters and couldn't wait for the next instalment. The narrator, Hayley Atwell is very easy to listen to. I will be putting more Rosamunde Pilcher books on my wish list.

Enjoyable story for any Pilcher fan
As always with Pilcher this is a story with characters that draw you into their World. Mixing a few timescales it tells a tale between the past and the present and I was sorry when it ended. The narrator has an odd style, sounding as if irritated by her task which I found equally irritating at first but I learned to live with it (along with some mispronounced common words) and overall I enjoyed the book a lot.

Gentle twists & turns
This story builds and flows so cleverly. There is the characters, looping stories and crafted style that all books should encompass

Beautiful story
I absolutely love this book. I’ve read it twice in the past. Unfortunately it was a little spoilt by the narrator rushing a lot of the time and with some strange pronunciation of certain words. This is such a wonderful storyline so beautifully written
