Summary

Random House presents the audiobook edition of The Travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa, read by George Blagden.

The tender feelgood story of a man's journey around Japan with a streetcat. Translated by Philip Gabriel, a translator of Murakami.

It's not the journey that counts, but who's at your side.

Nana is on a road trip, but he is not sure where he is going. All that matters is that he can sit beside his beloved owner Satoru in the front seat of his silver van. Satoru is keen to visit three old friends from his youth, though Nana doesn’t know why and Satoru won’t say.

Set against the backdrop of Japan’s changing seasons and narrated with a rare gentleness and humour, Nana’s story explores the wonder and thrill of life’s unexpected detours. It is about the value of friendship and solitude, and knowing when to give and when to take. TRAVELLING CAT has already demonstrated its power to move thousands with a message of kindness and truth. It shows, above all, how acts of love, both great and small, can transform our lives.

Excellent narrator

The narrator's voice is pleasant, his diction is very clear and he gives distinctive voices to all the characters without overacting. As a result, this book's a real plasure to listen to!

Because I love cats I do love this book.

The story is great, I would say it's great as a teenager book as well. Even if you are not a cat lover, anyone who enjoys a story that en-tails a journey, than this is book is for you. Light to medium hearted, easy listening performance. Overall: Now I know why it is staff popular choice in book shops. 😺😸😻

An absolutely beautiful story!

As a cat lover I simply adored this one! But even if you're not a fan of cats give it a try because this is a genuinely beautiful story. The undertone of the book is this feeling of dread that is slowly explained towards the end of the book. And while it is a sad story, the author put in lots of small moments of humor and holds the listener's hand as you're guided past memories of a cat's dear owner and a cat equally dear to him. For me it drew lines with my first cat, who left my life far earlier than I wanted her to. But it also reminded me how much I miss her and the warm memories I have of us. However like the book so amply puts it, they live on in your heart and so they can never truly be gone. And just like this book they leave a lasting impression on you. Highly recommended!

Profoundly moving

I loved the way the tale was told from the cat's perspective. Not just about the relationship between cats and humans, though, but about all relationships and how good can come out of adversity.

Lovely story

I have to admit I bought this because of the narrator, he has such a sublime voice and I don't really mind what he is saying, but this turned out to be a lovely story

I loved the way the story unfolded and the gentle philosophy of it. The epilogue was perfect.
